The cold rain on her shoulders matched her mood quite nicely. Sitting there, perched on one of Gotham's high-rises among the other gargoyles. Right there and then, she wished she was made of stone, like them. Not feeling a thing. Not that searing pain that stung her while looking at her through the window slightly down and cross the street: Detective Maggie Sawyer. A few weeks ago she had been the happiest woman in the world. She was doing what she loved for a living, not that it paid well, but she didn't require it. She was engaged to the woman she loved and happily so. Then came second thoughts. Maggie's ex husband threatening to take Jamie away from her was just too much for Kate to take responsibility for and thus, she had ended the relationship. Moments like these, however, made her rethink her decision. Maybe she should have fought more for her? Put some money in a good lawyer... or a couple good lawyers to show that ex husband of her's who's boss. She inhald deeply and was suddenly grateful that, at least, she had become stealthier. A few months earlier, Maggie would have asked her in to talk already. Or maybe this was Mags ignoring her?
"Earth to Kate!" Said the voice in her ear. "Batwoman, come in already!" It went on and Kate sighed silently. "I'm reading you loud and clear, Hawkfire. What's up? And stick with my callsign, will you?" She responded rather agitatedly. "Chill, K...., Batsie!" Bette said with a snicker that annoyed Kate even more. "If you had been hearing me loud and clear, you'd know that by now, a bunch of masks is breaking and entering at Gotham Central Bank. But you were busy stalking your ex again, I reckon. You know, you shouldn't do that! It's creepy as hell and sure doesn't score any points with her! Why break up in the first place, if you're just gonna be around her even more?" Kate had left her perch and was quickly walking across the flat roof top to the other side. Gotham Central wasn't that far. The cops would take at least 30 minutes. She could make it in five. Meaning, she would have the perpetrators tied up by the time the flashing lights arrived. Hopefully, she could even pull one of those graceful Batman exits. One of these days, she would find out how exactly he did it. Her mind jumped back to Bette's latest snarky comment. "Shut up and give me the sit rep, Plebe!" Kate ordered her. She noticed how her voice had gotten cold to a point where it might even be considered hurtful. "Sure, here you go." Bette said, her voice now colder as well. The situational report was short and precise. Just as Kate had expected it to be after a scolding. Just about five minutes later, she was on site.
Letting them set up the portable laser cutter was a tactical decision. Once that rather large thing had been set up, it would be a pain in their asses to disassemble it again. Once the first beam touched the outside of the store room wall, Kate revealed herself. She was rather happy that this had actually worked out for her. Thus far, she had had a hard time going into the shadows and staying there. Her B-plan had included a barrage of batterangs followed by a flashbang. Batman had called similar arrangements "overkill" in the past. Then again, this was the army training still lingering within her and maybe that training could still be put to purpose. As the red light hit the stone and and a loud humming started, Batwoman addressed the would be robbers. "You can stop now. I've seen enough, thanks" She said mockingly and each of the three took a step back, the laser drill falling silent. "What the.... shoot her!" Sounded the three in unison and struggled to bring guns bearing at Kate. Shots rang out but they hit nothing but smoke. Batwoman had used the sudden shock to throw a smoke pellet and change position. She circled around the trio, grabbed the one's rifle by the barrel and slammed the stock against his form. He coughed, let go and Batwoman would use the now free gun to slam into his ribs. As the man clattered to the ground, she took a step towards the next one. As she moved up on him, he turned, trying to aim his gun at her. Kate swung her right leg up into the air to her left, just to bring it crashing down on his jaw. He slumped to the ground and gave way to number three, who already had his gun up and pointed in Kate's direction. A shot sounded but it hit nothing but air as Batwoman had used her momentum to slide across the floor and right into the man's legs. Another shot rang out that went into empty air above. The man fell back and as Batwoman got to her feet, she made sure to twist his legs within the motion, messaging him that it was wiser to stay down. Once all assailants had been neutralized, Kate made sure their weapons had been secured and unloaded. She kept the magazines and left the guns in a nice package a good way away from the wanna be bank robbers, who were laying belly first in neat parcels on the roof top as well. Kate had assembled the hog tied burglars in the shape of a star, facing each other. Before she would leave into the night, as sirens howled towards her position, she left a calling card on one of the robbers. It read: "To Gotham with love".
