Paradise Interrupted
Story By: Black Canary
Heroes: Black Canary and Huntress
Black Canary: Dinah rests in the warm sun on the sandy beach of Themyscira, laying on Huntress' cape like a beach towel with Helena, drying in sunlight. she slowly drifts off to sleep unaware of the giggling she hears in the bushes about them. An hour later Dinah and Helena are both dozing. Unaware that they are sunning themselves like amazons on the beach. Dinah rolls over, pulling Helena's arm with her. While they slept a beautiful golden bracelet with no seams or latches binded their wrists together. Asleep Dinah naturally curls up holding the arm to her chest.
Huntress: It was the most quiet she had ever experienced in her life, nothing but the soft breeze blowing through the trees and the break of the waves on the sand. Drifting off in the afternoon sun, Helena was completely unaware of her surroundings, the warm light shining down on them lulling her into a comfortable sleep. Then slowly, the dream changed, and there she was, in the water alone and there was a fin moving towards her. Panic gripped her as she tried to get away, her feet unsteady in the sand and then…it grabbed her arm and pulled. “No!” Yelped Helena as she jerked awake quickly, convinced that the beast who held her was pulling her to the dark depths of the ocean to never be seen again and then…Blinking a few time to clear the sudden nightmare from her eyes she felt the warm body of Dinah and saw the splash of blonde hair. “…the hell, I’m not a snuggle buddy.” Helena murmured, embarrassed and missing the glint of the bracelet hidden against Dinah’s chest on her own wrist.
Black Canary: Dinah slept comfortably in the warm sun, and had such nice feelings of warmth and closenessin her sleep. she felt something pull, taking away the cozyness and she clutched to helena's arm to keep it there. hearing the yelp and embarassed murmer she slowly woke up. she yawned. "mm.. w-what? Helena?" through sleep filled eyes she noticed she was holding an arm, she nearly blushed and let go. "Sorry helena... you were just so cozy..." she yawned again.
Huntress: Her face grew hot at Dinah’s apology and at her stating the other woman was cozy and was suddenly glad they were on an island on the middle of the ocean where none of their other comrades could see. “Yeah, well…” Was all she managed as she sat up and tried to tug her arm away from the other, grunting as Dinah’s arm came with it then looked down at her wrist. “What is that…?” Giving Dinah’s shoulder a light shove she reached down to touch her own wrist. “…giving me presents for cuddling? I guess I could use a sugar mama.” Helena teased though confusion showed through brightly in her eyes and furrowed brows as she tried to tug their wrists apart. “I’m really not into the matching thing.”
Black Canary: Dinah made a surprised sound as she felt her arm get tugged behind her uncomfortably. it awakens her more and she rolls over to face helena. She was a little sheepish, she didn't think they were laying that close on the cape, just her natural instinct sharing sleeping space with someone she guessed. she gives Helena a confused look, laughing a bit at the joke. "Presents?" she feels her arm get pulled about again. "Stop jerking my arm." she tugged hard causing helena to topple onto her. she pulls helena's arm to look at her own wrist. "Bracelets? These aren't mine." suddenly it dawns on her. "We're linked together!? Is this your joke?" she gives helena a look.
Huntress: “I didn’t mean-…oof!” Helena grunted as Dinah tugged hard on her and she fell over, half on top of the other woman, her nose smacking into the blonde’s shoulder. “Ow damn it.” Looking up through her now slightly wild dark hair, she looked at their wrists bound together then looked at Dinah with the best deadpanned expression she could muster for the occasion. “Yes, I hooked us together because I so desperately wanted to spend my vacation on a paradise island bound to you.” Sarcasm thick in her voice Helena pushed herself up, grabbing Dinah’s wrist with her own free hand and tried to pull her hand away. “Let…go…stupid thing!”
Black Canary: Dinah winces as helena smacks into her shoulder. She couldn't help but roll her eyes as Helena got a bit snarky. "There are better ways to get me to... hey watch it!" she yelped as she was pulled up as helena stood up, she scrambled to her feet as her wrist was grabbed and yanked on. she peered at the bracelet. "There's no catch and they are so narrow, I don't know how they got put on us, they don't fit over our hands..." laughter is heard about them and some bushes that weren't there earlier are shaking with mirth. "You have to be kidding me..." complained dinah.
Huntress: Bringing their hands up, she inspected the bracelets her blue eyes narrowed in annoyance. “There’s not even a damn seam in these things.” Helena dropped her arm, effectively tugging Dinah’s with her own then her shoulder stiffened and she looked towards the bushes quickly. “The hell?” Not having a care in the world for the smaller woman’s arm attached to her own, Helena leaned down quickly and grabbed her cross bow then started to move towards the bushes. “This isn’t funny. I suggest you come out here before I start shooting first and asking questions later!” Helena called out menacingly towards the shrubbery.
Black Canary: Dinah grunted as her arm was forced to drop and was then yanked as Helena quickly reached for her crossbow. She widened her stanced and started to pull back once Helena had her weapon. "Stop moving about like that, I'm not a rag doll!" complained Dinah as the taller woman pulled her about. The bushes laughed Helena, it almost looked like they had faces. One turns to the other, "She wants to see us!"."Then she should see us!" replied the one next to it. The three bushes started to spin about on their own, leaves rustling as the seemed to lengethen and unfold, taking the shape of pale green women with leaves for hair and leaves for flowing skirts. the third one laughed. "Hehe, you two faught so earlier! it was nice to see you close together." Dinah's eyes widened and she roughly pushed the crossbow away from where helena aimed. "Don't shoot them!"
Huntress: As Dinah started to pull back Helena’s wrist ached but she ignored it, clenching her teeth as those damn plants started to laugh at her. “Last warning.” She growled, and even though she didn’t wear her mask the Batman like warning rung coldly in the air. Watching as the bushes turned into women she looked between the three of them. “Fought?” She grunted softly as Dinah shoved the crossbow away then whipped her head around to look at the blonde. “The hell do you mean don’t shoot them?! They just basically glued us together!”
Black Canary: Dinah couldn't help but shiver hearing that batman like tone, it strking a chord in her somewhere, she looked at Helena. "They're nymphs, if we hurt them either the amazons or some god will punish us so, we will wish were were just stuck together." she replied, remembering the stories her mother used to read her, starting to wonder if they actually stories of her mother's visit to the island. she gave an appologetic look at the bush women. "We were just playing earlier. Teasing about in the water." the short one shook her head, her leaves rustling. "No, you were fighting. We saw you toss the tall one and then she stumbled away from you. Dinah gave an appologetic look to all of them. "Please let us go. we'll be nice. see?" she then gave helena a one armed bear hug.
Huntress: “They’re *what*?” Disbelieve colored her voice so heavily that when she looked at Dinah her expression clearly stated the blonde had gone off the deep end. The word sounded familiar, something about annoying wood like creatures? Was that them? Or Trolls? Damn it, high school was so long ago and she had had other things to worry about other than myths. Turning her eyes back to the others she slowly lowered her crossbow; great, they were like…people huggers instead of tree huggers. “We’re friends.” The second word was a bit strained in Helena’s voice, it was the first time she said it aloud and it embarrassed her a bit to think that she might of actually had a friend. As she was given a one arm bear hug Helena struggled not to make a snaky comment towards the blonde and plastered on a fake smile. “We’re always nice.” As if she just noticed the weapon in her free hand she quickly hid it behind her back.
Black Canary: "nymps, living embodiments of nature and love." Dinah replied, blushing, it sounding so corny as she said it aloud. Dinah had trouble surpressing a snicker as helena said they were always nice to each other, then gave a cheesey grin herself. The tall nymph laughed and turned to the voluptous nymph. "Hehe they are funny. They think they can fool us!" the curvey one smiled. "They could be friends, but they have to prove it." the short one pointed to a nearby mountain. "There is a red stone on that cliff, only real friends could get up there together." The tall one spoke. "Fetch the stone and we will set you free." the nymph's leaves rustled and the leaves fell apart swirling about them as they vanished, their leaves blowing away on the wind. Dinah sighed. "Ready partner?"
Huntress: A dark brow rose at Dinah as she gave the textbook definition of what exactly a Nymph was and she nearly snorted before looking back at the three. Watching them silently for a moment Helena turned a bit to look over her shoulder at the mountain. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” She growled a bit then looked in time to see them disappear a smirk slowly forming on her face. “…we just have to get to the mountain.” Helena stated in confidence. “I guess a Nymph wouldn’t have thought of modern technology. My grappling gun can get us up the mountain.” It seemed plenty easy to her now, a walk through the woods, a quick pop of the gun and there they‘d be. Leaning down Helena moved to snatch up her utility belt, letting the crossbow drop on the cape for a moment.
Black Canary: Dinah dug her feet into the stand as helena yanked her again, pullling back. "Tell me before you make sudden movments, or I will really fight back." she said her blue eyes icy, her tone dangerous. she then moved with helena and grabbed the other end of the belt helping her put it on. "Yes, should be pretty easy for us." she agreed slowly, starting to get excited about a simple challenge. She gave a gentle tug on their wrists and pointed to her boots and then scooped them up putting them on one at a time with her free hand. getting ready for their hike.
Huntress: “I’m bigger than you are, you move with me. I don’t follow you, Barbie doll.” Helena shot right back to her, lifting up an arm as Dinah helped her put on her belt. They helped each other put on the belt and boots, and Helena insisted on wearing her cape, knowing full well the potential of getting caught in something without it. Once they were as dressed as they were going to get Helena tugged on her mask and set her free hand on her hip, looking down at Dinah. “I hope your short legs can keep up.” Not waiting for an answer and eager to get this over with she started walking, trying to tug Dinah along.
Black Canary: Dinah scowled at helena as she basically called her short and that awful nickname again. she pulled back hard against helena as she teased her about her legs. "You may be taller, but I'm stronger stringbean. So watch it." she then walked beside helena into the forest as the discovered a trail, the trail wasn't used much and braches and tall brush grabbed at them, clinging to helena's cape. "You had to wear it didn't you?" she frowned as she helped her untangle it again.
Huntress: “Stringbean…? Look here you…oof.” Helena had been moving with her and let out a grunt as she was jerked to a stop once again by a branch getting tangled in her cape. Nearly stumbling backwards she grabbed onto the material and gave it a few sharp tugs as Dinah helped her get it loose. “This cape has saved my life more times than not.” She muttered under her breath and waited to be freed before moving on again. “And I’m stronger.” The Huntress huffed and tugged Dinah along again. “Why can’t you have any useful weapons, like a machete?”
Black Canary: Dinah almost found the way helena's got cut short by her cape comical, but it was stuck again so it wasn't funny. Dinah gurmbled as helena kept insisting on the cape. "yeah yeah. we could always roll it up for now, I'll carry it." dinah smirked at helena insisting she was stronger. "sure you are. I'll prove it once we are free." Dinah pulled back and then dashed forward so she wouldn't be dragged by the aggressive woman. "I'm a hand to hand combat specialist, any weapons or blade in my hand will kill most people I fight against. I fight, I don't kill." she looked away. "Besides I do enough damage with just my body and voice..." she drifts off lost in thought, rembering high school. "You don't make many friends when you are considered dangeorus..." she clears her throat. "I'm scarier than a shark." she tries to tease and make light.
Huntress: “No.” The idea of Dinah carrying her cape made her scowl and she grabbed the edge of it with her free hand to tug it around her body and hold onto it. “Hope you don’t mind the taste of sand, because you’ll be eating a lot of it.” Huntress insisted as Dinah stated there would be a sparring match after all of this was over. “Yeah, yeah. Everyone fights, no one kills. At least not in Gotham.” Her blue eyes flickered to the woman walking next to her as she spoke again, watching silently as she trailed off in thought. ‘You’re basically perfect, who could ever treat you badly?’ Was Helena’s passing thought and she clamped down on it quickly, there wasn’t a need to feel sorry for the Canary, but in some odd way, even though they constantly were at odds with one another Helena felt the need to protect her. “A shark is prettier than you.” Helena snorted. ‘I know that, about friends…I can say I have you, can’t I?’ Helena thought once again then cleared her throat. “Dangerous? You? Whatever. Whoever is afraid of you is an idiot.” It was said in a way that was almost warm, almost a statement of Helena confirming she was Dinah’s friend, not that she’d admit it to anyone…except maybe those damn Nymphs.
Black Canary: Dinah smirks hearing helena wlecome the thought of a sparring match. "Better eatting sand than my boot." she huffs softly but smirks hearing that a shark is prettier than her. She can't help but smile as helena's tone get warm as she calls her not scary. she gives a little squeeze of helena's hand as if confirming what she said. "Hehe... tell that to all the gangsters in gotham who run when I shoot them a dirty look." she smirks. "Probably why I enjoy spending time with other heroes and as black canary more that as Dinah. You guys are tough and aren't afraid of me, we have all seen scarier things." she smiles at thelena, she wasn't just talking of other heroes. they hear the rush of roaring water ahead.
Huntress: “Your boot? My boot is bigger, and better looking and it kicks tons harder than yours.” Glancing down as her hand was squeezed she cleared her throat. Her embarrassment continued as Dinah kept speaking, and it only showed as Helena moved a hand up to rub the back of her neck. “Yeah, well…” She started to say something else, and a brief thought of the scary things in her life she’d seen popped into her head. ‘It’s not people I’m afraid of, it’s not dying, it’s losing the ones I care about.’ Her stride paused and she flinched briefly when she saw an image of her father holding her mother’s broken body. “Ah…” Clearing her throat again she moved towards the sound of the water. “Of course we’d have to cross something with water.”
Black Canary: Dinah rolls her eyes hearing about helena's boots. "My boots are cuter than yours." she glances over to notice helena embarasedly rubbing her neck. she looks at helena sadly as the woman gets quiet her expression showing her thoughts working through something hard. wondering what awful things she has seen, she gave her hand another squeeze and then let go as they came across a raging river with an old long log over it like a bridge. "yep, probably all set up by the nymphs too." she smirked and got up on the log walking as if it was a wide bridge used to narrow rooftops.
Huntress: “They’re not very good at this challenge thing, are they?” Helena stepped easily in line with Dinah, completely at ease on the log just like on the rooftops in Gotham as well. Her blue eyes glanced down at the raging river below them and that twisted her stomach, not being confident enough in her ability to swim to be completely comfortable with the view below them. “Mine aren’t cute, they’re awesome. Function over form.” She continued the conversation to take her mind off of the water.
Black Canary: Dinah laughed at Helena. "Nymphs are old, this would have been a challenge for some of the old heroes." she glanced and ntoticed how helena's eyes whipped up and didn't look down again, she nodded as they were 3/4ths the way there. "hehe, gotta love awesome boots. we should go shopping for some new ones sometime. maybe buy you some fishnets." she teases. the log starts to crackle under there feet, it was splitting up! Dinah suddenly spun arround grabbed helena and tossed her towards the shore, lunging after her.
Huntress: “Old an annoying as hell.” Reaching up she released her cape and brushed her hair back from her face. “Oh yeah, fishnets, that’ll really complete my outfit.” She said blandly. “As if I don’t catch enough grief from people about what I wear. I mean really.” The sharp snapping noise made her stomach drop to her feet a she looked down quickly. “Shit.” As the blonde spun around in front of her, Huntress grunted as she was grabbed and thrown. “That’s not going to work…!” It got her as far as Dinah’s and her arms would extend, which wasn’t quick the length of the log, even as Dinah lunged after her and she landed hard on her feet, nearly slipping on the log her wrist throbbing at the strain the bracelet put on the both of them.
Black Canary: Dinah couldn't help but smirk at Helena's reaction to her comment on fishnets, at least she was keeping her distracted. she frowned as her wrist ached too as she now lay on the log as it cracked and started to sink into the water. They were nearly there. She tried to get up but the log was wet and she couldn't get up, not without slipping off the log. "I can't get up... Keep going the rest will be pulled in soon..." she scrambled crawling on the log with one arm above her head so she wouldn't pull down Helena.
Huntress: As Dinah landed as well it pulled Helena off balance, making her land on her side on the log. Teeth clenched she laced their fingers together to get a grip on the other woman so their wrists didn’t feel like they were going to dislocate and dug her gloved fingers of her other hand onto the log. “ “Keep going“? You make that sound easier than it is. And the rest of you better follow me, I’m not losing an arm because you broke the log with your weight.” She bared her teeth in a snarl as she dug her toes into the ground and pulled herself backwards on the log to pull them both onto solid ground. “You need to stop eating sweets, Canary!”
Black Canary: "I broke the log?!" growled canary, the taunts rubbing her temper the wrong way. She dug her nails on her free hand into bark of the log. Her boots now slick with water scrambiling finding the grooves in the log. She crawls with determination as Helena pulls her up. As she gets to the end of the log most of it is in the water now. She kicks off the log as it sinks into the water and lands hard on Helena. "Cut back on the sweets?! I'll have you know that muscle is stronger than fat." she says, giving a thump with her weight on the heroine beneath her.
Huntress: Her taunt worked, it made Dinah fight harder and as she clawed her way up, Helena pulling on her firmly so that when she finally managed to scramble up and land on Helena she was helpless to stop it. A grunt left her as her air exited her lungs and she was left coughing a bit. “Jesus…Mary…” She couldn’t quite get out the Joseph as she needed more air and an extra bounce by Dinah didn’t help that. Bringing up her free arm she shoved the Canary to the sit and sat up, taking in a deep breath. “…if…” Wheeze. “Muscle weighs more than fat then,” Cough. “What’s your excuse for how much your butt and thighs jiggle?” A laugh was given as she stood, grabbing Dinah and hauling her up as well. They survived without falling in the water. She was happy.
Black Canary: Dinah gave a little smirk as she heard Helena muttering and give a little wheeze beneath her. As she was pushed off the heroine she land hard on her tush. Her eyes glowered at Helena's jab utni she started to laugh and offered a hand up. Dinah took Helena's had firmy and her expression softened and she started to laugh too. "Hehe, if I need an excuse we can blame my mom. Either for her genes or her snickerdoodles." she smirked swinging her wrist attached with Helena's gently as they walked, like a kid does when they go hiking. As the walked deeper into the woods getting closer to the mountain's base.
Huntress: Walking with her, Helena grew thoughtful again as she automatically started swinging her wrist with Dinah’s just so she wouldn’t be tugged around. It was an easy rhythm to get into, seeing as how she was 18, which was hard for people to remember, still a kid herself in some aspects. “My Mom wasn’t much of a cook.” She started to say then stopped herself. Well, everyone thought of her as Bertinelli, there wasn’t any hard in talking about her Mom a bit, even if it was a different woman than people knew all together. “She was more fond of having fun, playing games, going on adventures. I have her butt too, and her love for some things. But I have my father’s eyes.” Head tipping back she looked at the mountain through the trees. “Let’s hope my grappling gun will be able to grab onto something, otherwise it’s going to be a long climb.”
Black Canary: Dinah smiled hearing Helena mention her mom, she rarely opened up like this, but she didn't mind. She nodded and smirked. "We are our mother's daughter's aren't we? Your mom sounds like a fun handful to deal with. My mom was very much the homemaker, which was very different from the time before me. She tried to hide it from me, but it showed it little ways." she smirks looking into those cool blue eyes of Helena's, the did look familiar. "I'm sure that's a better trade than having his bottom." she teased. Dinah followed Helena's gaze up the mountain. "I think we will make it either way, but I trust you. You know? You do have a pretty sure shot." she smiled.
Huntress: If she had pockets on her suit, she would have shoved her hands in them. Well, the hand that wasn’t being swung back and forth by Canary like a school yard girl. “A handful, that sounds like a pretty damn accurate description.” She couldn’t even imagine trying to keep up with that woman. “Your Mom was a Canary, right?” Honestly, she didn’t know much about Dinah, she hadn’t really asked. Helena figured it was easier to not ask about someone’s past so they didn’t ask about hers, and Dinah did love to talk. At least it passed the time. Besides, the last thing she wanted to talk about was her father’s butt, that was just…-too- weird even if her real father was dead and gone. At the mention of trust, Huntress slid the woman next to her a side long glance, her lips pulling thin into a thoughtful look. That wasn’t something you heard everyday from most of the vigilantes in Gotham, then again…the Black Canary wasn’t like most.
Black Canary: Dinah caught the glance from the huntress and just gave a warm honest smile back. After a moment her smile faded a little and she nodded. "Yes, my Mom was the original Black Canary. To be honest I didn't even know until High School... after my accident, that she was Black Canary. She hid it to protect me and herself in someways." she looked thoughtful. She kept swinging their hands. "She didn't want me to follow in her footsteps you know? She hoped to spare me the pain and risk of putting on this mantle... but she was also preventing me from doing good, from being my best, to bring something back to Gotham which really needs it." she paused. "But it's a part of me, a part I wouldn't give up for anything. And I think my mom in her own way is proud of me. Even if she won't say it." she smirks a little looking at Helena.
Huntress: Huntress listened to her silently, and her curiosity had a million questions that wanted to be asked of Dinah but she refused to let them out and she certainly didn’t smile back when the warm smile was given. Did her parents want her to go down this path? Well, there was no way of knowing that, so why dwell on it and the only person she could go up to and ask if he thought her father would be proud would no doubt tell her no, as sternly as possible. Eyes narrowed for a moment then she looked back at Dinah. “You’re too damn nice for a vigilante, you need to find a husband and raise a brood of kids or something. You certainly have the hips for it.” Reaching down with her free hand she grabbed her grappling gun from her waist and grumbled just a bit. Too much mushy talk, even if she did start it.
Black Canary: As she talked Dinah would glance at Helena, making good eye contact. But she was also noticing how casual Helena's posture was and the curiousness her sombre expression didn't hide, even without asking more questions. It reminded her of someone, but she had trouble placing who it was. Her own eyes narrowed as her hips were mentioned. Even she had to admit she did have the hips for it. She rolled her eyes. "Ugh, you sound like my mom!" she shook her head and then smirked a little. "If I find the right partner maybe I will someday." her tone had a slight hint of doubt in it. "But for now I like a good fight and hopefully a good cause to go with it." she grinned cheekily. Dinah had been so lost in the conversation she hadn't noticed they were at the base of the mountain. She smiled at the grappling gun and got close to helena putting her arms about her. "Ready?"
Huntress: Huntress snerked at Dinah, lips pulling up in a sarcastic sneer when she said she sounded like her Mom. “Aren’t mother’s usually right?” The question was hard to tell if it was serious or not and as Dinah wrapped her arms around Helena the dark hair woman frowned. “…if you let go, and my should dislocates, I swear…” The sentence wasn’t finished as Huntress turned her gaze upwards and aimed her grappling gun. The familiar popping sound came as she squeezed the trigger and giving it a few test pulls instead of holding onto it with one arm she hooked it to her belt so she could wrap her free arm around the Canary as it pulled them up. “What is it we’re looking for again? A blue monkey? Purple flower?” It was more conversation, if anything just to get under Dinah’s skin a bit; that was the part of their relationship she really liked.
Black Canary:Black Canary: Dinah was kind of caught off guard by Helena's reply. Was she just teasing her like usual or was she being serious. She stared at her for a moment. Her mother was wrong about her being a vigilante, it had been the right thing for her. But would it always be? That she didn't know. Was Helena worried about her? She frowned pushing the thoughts away, somewhat releived by Helena's warning about letting go. Dinah smirked and hugged her a bit tighter. "hehe, I'm afraid You can't lose me that easily." She watched Helena work the grappling gun with experience and ease and found helena holding her back as they were whisked off the ground and up towards a ledge on the mountain, a good third of the way up. She smirked and rolled her eyes as Helena gave such ridculous items for them to find. she gave a soft huff. "Weren't you paying attention? A red rock." she slowly smirked, their verbal fighting and playing, familiar and comfortable, like good friends or sister would do. Underneath it all, she knew she considered Helena both. She smiled.
Huntress: “No, I wasn’t paying attention, I was too busy getting hissed at by you not to shoot the little fuc-…dears.” Just in case they were listening in. As their feet touched down on a ledge Huntress disengaged the grappling hook and let Dinah go while she made sure it was prepared to go again if need be. “You watch, we’re going to scale this thing up one side and down the other and there isn’t going to be any sort of “red rock”, and if that’s the case…” It turned into pissy mumbling, something about dismembering and drowning. “I don’t understand this whole thing anyway. What does a bunch of fairies…imps…whatever they are, care about if we get along or not? Clearly if we are hanging out together on a beach we’re getting along. The fact that you didn’t drown me and I didn’t impale you to let you get eaten by a shark should be good enough for those nosy little pieces of scenery.” A boot kicked over a plain old rock. “See anything or do we need to go up again?” If they needed to, she’d repeat the last process and hold onto Dinah on the way up.
Black Canary: Dinah rolled her eyes. "If you weren't so busy being tough and threatening to tick off some powerful beings, I wouldn't have had to hiss at you." She looked around to see if anything about the ledge stood out to her, there wasn't. "Nymphs, they're nymphs. And though they can be tricksters, they are often honest at some level. I'm sure there is a red rock at the top of this mountain like they said." she said although it seemed like she didn't believe what they said word for word. She laughed alittle at Helena's frustration about the whole thing and her logic. "That's the thing, nymphs don't need logic or understanding. Most things they do are for their own reasons, but they always have a reason." she looked up the mountain, glad it was fairly short. She pointed to the top. "Do you see that ledge up there near the top? It looks like a cave is up there. Try to get us as close to it as you can."
Huntress: “It’s probably not even a rock.” Huntress shot the grappling gun and held tight to Dinah as it carried them to the ledge with the cave. “It’s probably a boulder the size of a tank that they somehow think we can pick up and carry back to them.” She continued on the trip up. “Hey, they started this whole thing, powerful beings? More like an enormous pain in the-” Her boot touched the ledge and she pushed Dinah towards the cave while she unhooked the gun from her belt. “How is it they can have their own reasons without logic or understanding? It would make this test or whatever it is null and void if they decide that because of the way we talk to each other we’re still not friendly enough.” Pulling her cape around her shoulders she leveled Dinah with a glare. “This is their little game, and we’re going along with it without knowing the end result. It could be never ending.” In that moment her stomach growled and the Huntress tone was dropped for a moment as she tipped her head back and let out a whine. “And I’m hungry.”
Black Canary: Dinah smirked amused as Helena specualted that the rock they were looking for would be huge. she quick walked toward the cave as she pushed towards it they landed, catching her balance, her arm behind her a bit so she wouldn't drag Helena. She sighed listening to Helena. "I'm sorry... but I just don't know. Greek Myths always described their gods and nymphs as being powerful and doing what they want on a whim. Not too different from some heroes and villians we know... Usually in these stories, the trial the heroes go through give them something, a new understanding, an item they need, something the hero doesn't expcect or realize they want. But there is always an end, and not always the one we want." she looked gave a little smirk as Helena's stomach growled and she whined, she was just a kid sometimes. She turned away and slipped a hand into her costume and turned around offering Helena a granola bar. "Here, have this. Should stave your hunger a little."she smiled and didn't acknowledge that she didn't have pockets on her costume. She looked at the cave, did she hear something in there? she went quiet, listenting.
Huntress: Listening, annoyance swamped her for a moment as she tilted her head back to look at Dinah as her stomach grumbled again. “Here’s the thing,” A fierce grin was given to the blond. “Usually those guys we know, I get to punch in the face or at least shoot a bolt or two at.” Snatching the granola bar from Dinah she started walking into the cave then paused looking down at it then over at Dinah. “…” Shoving it back at Dinah she slipped a small flashlight from her belt and started walking again. “That’s gross, you don’t even have pockets.” Where did she keep that? Oh god, she really didn’t want to know. Not having noticed Dinah was behind quiet until then she paused and looked at her. “What? What’s wrong?” Turning her gaze back into the darkness she shined the powerful little light back inside. “Don’t tell me, we have imps…fairies, whatever; fire breathing dragon?”
Black Canary: Black Canary: Dinah sighed, "Not everyone can feel or even care about your anger." Dinah gave a slight annoyed but hurt look as the granola bar was was shoved back into her hands. "Hey, beggers can't be choosers... it was wrapped." she went silent as she definetly heard something as Helena questioned looking back at her, she hushed her softly. and soon helena could hear it to something big walking, on all fours, it had a soft growl and hiss sound, even a little higher pitched sound like a bleat. Dinah's eyes went wide "No... a Chimera..." as she said it the creature stepped out. It was as big as a lion, that being what most of it's body was, but it had a goat's head in the middle of it's back and a snake, head and all as it's tail. The ultimate creature that was stuck together. The three sets of eyes glowered at the two. Dinah fell into a defensive battle stance. She glanced at Helena, giving her a look that asked, 'Ready?'
Huntress: “Trust me, I make people feel my anger.” Rolling her shoulders she went silent as Dinah hushed her, squinting a bit to see into the dark and taking a small step back so she was side by side with the Canary. As the Chimera came into view the flash light dropped to the stone beneath her feet and she scrambled to grab her crossbow holding onto it firmly. “What the fuck is that!” It just came out, the stunned surprised as she was looking at something that someone -obviously- put together wrong. At the look Dinah gave her Helena wondered how exactly she expected the women bound together by the wrist to handle fighting. “Sing for it, damn it!” Huntress growled at her as she leveled the crossbow at one of the three heads. God she hated snakes, even creatures with snakes.
Black Canary: Dinah felt a shiver of fear and a rush of a challenge go through her, she loved feeling like this and it made her grin. she nodded at Helena and took a deep breath and then let loose a high piercing screech at the chimera. The creature was knocked back, but with quick reflexes dug it's claws into the ground. The lion took a deep breath and roared loudly. Dinah's eyes widened as felt the vibration as the two sounds clashed, it made the hair top of her head stand on end. A sonic roar! The beast was sonic too! As the roar ended her cry stopped in her throat. "Shoot one of the heads!" she said quickly to helena looking about for other options, they were stuck out here on the cliff with no way out, she stepped back a step and nearly stumbled over a rock. She looked down at it. "We're gonna need to do this together..."
Huntress: Huntress took another small step back as Canary let out her scream, not wanting to catch any of it herself. The small space of the cave made it echo slightly and she shook her head a bit as her ears rung because of it then a shoulder jerked in surprise as the lion roared and both noises seemed to end with deafening silence. The command to shoot wasn’t needed as Helena tilted her head to the side, and with the lion’s mouth still open she shot a bolt right into it. Reaching to reload her arm was tugged behind her as Dinah stepped back and tripped and she made and irritated noise as she tugged her forward again. “Then if you want me to shoot it,” Huntress growled as she quickly reloaded a bolt. “Then you’re going to have to not run away while I’m trying to reload. Her hand now free and to save both of their wrists Helena’s hand clasped Dinah’s above the gold bracelet. “And not jerk me around when I aim!”
Black Canary: The lions head thrashed amoment as the arrow went through it's mouth and into it's brain. The other two heads bleated and hissed and seemed to be fighting for control as the lion seemed to fight them, before going limp. It's head sagging down and bleading. Dinah winched as her small backstep irritated Helena and felt the jerk to move back forward. She nodded, "yes. Sorry." she said appologetically. Feeling the hand on her wrist she grabbed Helena's hand. With the lion's head hanging down, the creature started to advance on them again. Dinah held her breath a bit anticpating the next shot.
Huntress: It wasn’t everyday that someone got to see a real live mythical creature, and as far as Huntress was concerned, unless it was something far less harmless she was about done with imps…wood people (whatever they were!) and Chi…three headed weird as crap creature that was trying to kill them currently. Holding onto Dinah’s hand firmly Helena let off the next shot, striking the snake head because hey, when you thought about it, goats weren’t so scary! As it moved closer she took a step back, pulling Dinah with her and glanced at the ledge at their back. Talk about being stuck being a rock and a hard place. “This thing can’t magically fly right? Because we should probably ole it like a bull right off of this cliff.” There was no way she wanted to walk past even the corpse as this thing, something about even if you cut off the head of a snake it could still bite.
Black Canary: The chimera was still getting it's body under control when the next arrow went through the snake's head it thrashed and the goat just glared at them letting the rest of the body scramble for a moment as the snake died. It huffed through it's nose. Waiting, waiting for the next shot. Dinah let her breath out, two down. She shook her head. "No, they aren't supposed to fly. But it doesn't look like it is going to charge us..." When the snake went limp the goat started slowly moving the body towards them again. It bleated angerly. Dinah held still waiting for Helena to make another shot.
Huntress: “It seems three heads aren’t better than one after all.” Letting go of Dinah’s arm to load another bolt she made a face when the goat bleated at them and took aim. “…I feel bad killing it now, it’s just a funky looking goat.” Scowling a bit she watched it as it moved closer her finger nearly squeezing the trigger and in the last moment her hand jerked upwards and the bolt struck the top of the cave, letting loose a few rocks that fell onto the goats head. “It probably just wanted a hug…you should go and hug it.” Huntress said to Canary, a smirk twisting her lips.
Black Canary:Dinah rolled her eyes at Helena's joke, and smirked a little. Dinah sighed, hearing how helena felt bad for the animal now. "I know... but it still has the claws of a lion." The goat glanced up as the bolt went up quickly and using it's long horns blocked the rocks coming at it. Unlike the other two heads it could block range attacks. The goat looked a bit dazed but huffed angrly. "I don't think it wants hugs..." Dinah reached down with her joined hand and grabbed the rock she tripped on. "Help me pick it up." she looked at Helena. "On 3, we charge and thrust the rock into it. I can help deflect the attacks."
Huntress:“Claws?” Looking down she rolled her eyes upwards in a ‘why me’ sort of fashion. As it blocked the rocks and a bit of dust rose up she waved her hand in front of her face then looked down at Dinah as she reached down. Wait…what? “…I have explosives on my belt, you have a scream that shatters more than just windows and with all of our abilities your solution…is to hit it in the head with a rock?” It was so absurd laughter nearly bubbled out of her before she leaned over and lifted the rock as well. “Where exactly are we,” Giggle “Thrusting this rock, per say?” Oh god, her shoulders were shaking with contained laughter and she struggled to maintain composure as she cleared her throat. “I’m not looking to get a face full of horns, or head butted in the gut.”
Black Canary: Dinah looked helena as she was nearly laughing at her and frowned, the chimera still coming toward them, like a patient panther. "It's a mystical creature... It had a sonic roar, it can probably withstand the attack, besides it isn't sporting... I know it sounds lame, maybe silly... but even the amazons took down monsters worse than this with their hands. I don't think we can pass this test any other way..." she sighed. "Distract it with a bomb blast and be ready to rise up the rock when it does try to head butt us, it can't aim at your gut, the lion's head is in the way." Dinah gave a nod as they started to charge, the goat lowered it's head to block.
