The Justice League Mini-series Story #4:
Nocturnal Hunters #1
BlackCanary: Night had fallen upon Gotham City. It being a typical Friday night, the city busy with activity. While the usual galas were being held by the upper crust in hotels and exclusive clubs, regular citizens were catching movies and meeting in coffee shops. Also the criminal sect of Gotham were busy. Behind an electronics store a bunch of thugs were 'liberating' the equipment into a truck. Carrying off circuit boards and computers. Around a corner a blonde haired woman dressed in black with fishnets watches.
-The thug placed down a box into the truck when he turned around he saw a large shadow approaching the back of the truck, swooping down from the sky. – “What the?” –Batman stopped just at the back door of the truck, and grabbed the handle. He pulled it down and slid towards the ground, closing the back of the truck, locking the man temporarily inside. Batman turned around to see three men, they quickly hurled their items at Batman, knocking him backwards as computer parts and electronics struck him. Reaching to his pouch he tossed three smoke bombs onto the ground fogging the area, Batman charged towards the first man, grabbing them by the shirt while covering their mouth with his left hand. Batman tripped him and then slammed him onto the ground, before turning around to see a boot swing straight for his face, the kick threw Batman into a dumpster. A loud rumble from the dumpster being pushed backwards as Batman had been. Batman grunted as he adjusted himself, the thugs charged towards Batman but, he would grab onto the lid of the container and swing forward, his legs flipped up into the air and his body landing on top of the dumpster in a crouched position. He then sprung up over the thugs and into the smoke. By now the men would arm their pistols and step away from the smoke- “He’s gotta come out sooner or later.”
BlackCanary: One of the men is surprised as a hand from behind him grabs his wrist and painfully twists it behind his back, twisting his wrist making him drop his gun. The other man turns to see who is behind him and sees the black clad woman in just time to get a knee in his gut causing him to double over, both men having their backs to the smoke. "You boys really need to pay attention to what is not in the smoke too." the woman smirks, as she kicks the doubled over man in the chest, sending him into the smoke. She tugs the wrist in her hand and spins the man around and decks him.
-Batman watched the scene unfold, as this black corset dressed vixen man handled the thugs remaining, it was then the back of the truck opened and the man armed his pistol and pointed towards the smoke. Batman’s gaze shifted to see a thug coming towards him; Batman ducked and grabbed the man’s chest and belt. His knees began locked and Batman lifted the thug overhead and threw him into the truck onto the other man, knocking both of them over. Batman turned his attention to the mysterious woman who was finishing up her thug. -“Nice moves for someone working the streets…” –Batman narrowed his eyes some at her as his sarcastic, facetious tone ended and a serious one began.- “You should stay out of it next time, you might know a few tricks but, its dangerous messing with men like these.”
BlackCanary: Black canary knocks the thug out and hears the movement in the smoke as it slowly dissaptes hearing the clatter in the truck as the two men end up in a heap inside of it. She sees batman work his way through the fog to her, she frowns at his comment hinting that she is a prostitute and crossees her arms over chest. "Despite what you may think, I am protecting these streets, not soliciting them. I was trailing these thugs before you swooped in with your toys. And I am far more dangerous then any of these men." Her body naturally taking a fighting stance to back herself up.
-Batman listened to her words while studying her; she tried to play it tough. He was half tempted to drop her onto the ground and prove to her she was nothing but a girl living in a fantasy world based on class room karate and a sensei who only knew how to break wooden planks. The real world of fighting and combat wasn’t cut and dry as simply being able to smash a wooden stick over someone’s stomach. Batman growled at her.- “You’re not cleaning up the streets anymore. Go home and do something else with your life other than throwing it away.” –His tone was deep and aggressive.-
BlackCanary: She frowned and glared at the dark knight. Her voice cold. "This town is too big and too dangerous to rely on just the police and you. Thank you for your concern Batman. But it's my choice, and no one. Not even you, can stop me." she got up in Batman's face, her eyes firey.
-Batman would reach to grab her left wrist with his right hand, his left arm would also reach to grab her right shoulder in order to spin her around and pull her arm behind her back, if he was successful in grabbing her that is. His move was almost exactly what she used to open her attack on the thugs just a few moments prior. His intent was to pin her against the wall with a solid body slam.- “Care to run that by me again?” –Batman growled, his blue eyes filled with aggression.-
BlackCanary: She let him spin her around and he went to pull her arm behind her back tugged, while tucking forward, kicking back, trying to flip batman into a throw into the groudn or into the wall. Her movements quick and strong and noticably practiced. Her eyes flashing and smirk coming to her lips. She was enjoying this. "You won't stop me, batman."
-Batman went to throw her against the wall for a pin when her kick knocked him back and then he was thrown over her. He rolled onto his stomach by rolling sideways to gain distance, he pushed himself off the ground and into tackling her by the waist, wrapping his arms around her if he was successful. He would follow up this move by slamming her onto the ground with his body weight on top of her, if this combination was successful she would feel his weight compress her body and immediately she could feel the metal armor covering his skin.-
BlackCanary: Black Canary stood back up and regained her fighting stance as Batman distanced himself and and got back up. She was soon met by his charge tackling her to the ground, feeling his armor press againt her, her arms wrapping about his broad shoulders. As her shoulders hit the pavement she rolled backwards like she doing a backward somersault, she kicked up up as she was doing this hoping to either kick him off or get his moment going enough that he would pull her with him, landing on top. If she was unsucessful, she took a deep breath just in case.
-Batman’s arms were wrapped around her torso and felt her tumble to flip him over. He would think to himself.- ‘She is good. I’m holding back though...She’s holding back…We both could easily end each other’s lives any moment. That would’ve been too easy. No, we enjoy the challenge. I almost thought for a moment she was enjoying this.’ –Batman lied underneath her watching her through his mask, his arms around her torso, when suddenly Batman’s eyes narrowed upon her. His hand would reach to grab her throat and squeeze.- ‘She would think I was crossing the line but, somewhere in that milo second of her choking she would realize there was a reason for the moment of suffocation.’ -Batman pulled her head to the ground next to him, and he would roll top of her, pushing his body against hers, suddenly a volley of machine gun fire rang out in the distance but, Black Canary and Batman would only hear crackling of cement next to them. A read laser dot was pointed at Black Canary’s forehead from approximately 2,000 yards away from a rooftop overlooking the alleyway. Batman armed his grappling hook and slipped his arm under Black Canary’s arm.- “Hold on.” –He growled as he aimed his grappling hook towards the rooftops and fired it. Quickly the hook latched onto something and pulled both of them towards the sky.-
BlackCanary: She could feel him holding back and it both annoyed her and innvogarted her, wanting to show him he shouldn't hold back with her. She couldn't hold back her smile as she layed on top of him waiting for him to roll back or toss her off. She felt the hand on her throat and she almost panicked, but something was off about it. It wasn't an attack, there was no force behind it. She quickly caught there was a reason and as he pulled her head down and felt him roll, she went with it. Letting herself trust her opponent of the moment. She heard the crackle of the cement as the bullets teared it up. She caught a glimpse of lazer shot and was trying to make out where it was, when Batman gripped her arm and hel her to him. She knew she didn't have a chance to say anything so she grabbed on feeling the grappling gun pull them up innto the sky and onto the rooftops. As soon as she landed she dashed off across the roof towards where the gun was. "Thanks. I owe you one. where are they?" She scoured the ground looking for the machine gun, taking a deep breath as she thrust out a foot, getting herself into a stance, arching her back a little.
-Batman released her as she pulled away from him, his gaze was already hunting for their predator, Batman’s helmet locked onto a man standing with a sniper rifle in hand…He had a perfect shot, a few perfect shots on both Batman and Black Canary but, he didn’t take them, merely aimed the rifle and watched. The men around him used a stationary minigun, its accuracy was set for a wide pattern; it was probably Russian and intended to deal with massive amounts of civilians and infantry. Batman ducked behind a ventilation turbine on the rooftop. The sniper adjusted his optic eye attachment over his right eye. The lens filtered out the metal of the ventilation and locked onto Batman. He aimed his rifle; M82 and fired a shot just above Batman’s shoulder. The shot penetrated through the mental and whistled past him like an imaginary whisper over Batman’s shoulder.- ‘He’s using something big…Probably an Anti-tank rifle, with extra armor penetration…A Bat killer. He made the mistake in not shooting me when he had the chance…’ –Batman armed a cryptographer and peered out to scan the distance, he used the camera to zoom in x10 and located the minigun, he locked in the coordinates and said to Black Canary.- “There’s five of them total.” -The thugs standing by him would aim the minigun towards Batman and Black Canary’s rooftop and begin suppressing fire at them; again from 2,000 yards away.
BlackCanary: She heard a shot as she ran for the edge of the rooftop, it sounded big as she heard it go through metal like tissue paper. She made it to the edge of the rooftop and made her stance. She nodded as he told her how many there were as they started to open fire on them both. It looked odd to see her standing in the open, looking like she was asking for them to shoot her. She let loose a high wail, noticible sonic registers of sound eminating from her. The wave of sonic sound ripped through the bullets breaking them down as they came at her, leaving her unphaseed. The cry hit the cars on the far side of the street tossing them and crumpling them into the buildings behind them, shattering windows. Knocking down and stunning any gunman who was in the way of the blast. She wobbled a little on her feet as she had used a lot of energy on it, more than she should have, but she mad that she was shot at, she ducked down behind the cement wall edging the rooftop.
-The men held their ears and collapsed to the ground except one. The wrong one in fact, he jumped off the roof top and landed down low, in mid-flight he would eject the magazine and slide into place a new magazine. Upon landing he raised the rifle and aimed; not at Black Canary but, at her feet. He fired a shot as she began winding down her canary call, the rifle shell would hit the roof in front of Dinah and suddenly explode causing the rooftop around her to collapse. He fired two more additional shots to blow up the surrounding area on either side of her to throw her back and further set her off balance. Batman would utilize his cryptographer to manipulate and pilot the Batwing into strafing the rooftop with its machineguns, the mingun would shatter and the thugs would find themselves injured further from the debris splashing around to hit them.- -Batman cursed that he had missed one guy and began piloting the Batwing to circle around the building to find the last gunman. Batman would then notice Canary was in danger and lowered the controls to rush over and try and help her.-
BlackCanary: She noticed the batwing fly over and barrage around the rooftop hearing it take down the guns and destroy the roof. She doesn't notice the lone gunman not affected by her canary cry. He must have been watching her and was ready. Her scream finishes and as she sinks down to get out of the way of any remaining gunmen and their bullets she is shocked to notice that she isn't stopping the rooftop around her exploding and crumbling. She tries to get her footing or grab something but two more shots surround her knock her back enough she loses her balance. She starts to slip off the roof her hair blowing up around her as she tries to grab the crumbling and side of the building.
-Batman extended his hand to her wrist and grabbed onto her, and attempted to pull her up towards him, the rooftop area was crumbling as the explosive round had caused significant damage to the side of the building. The gunman looked above his head to see the rotating blades underneath the Batwing, he raised his gun and aimed towards the center of the propeller and fired a shot causing the blades to offset and begin to twirl out of control. The gunman jumped down onto another ledge and raised his rifle to fire another shot at Batman and Black Canary, causing the floor to collapse and dropped them both into a public bathroom / shower facility, apparently they were in some kind of gym. Batman felt the debris around him and looked to Black Canary.- “Are you alright?” –He sat up and looked above them. Batman’s armor was scratched and scorched some from the explosion and debris clattering against him.-
BlackCanary: She grabs Batman's wrist as he grabs her, her feet finding the side of the building as she starts to walk up, she ignores the gunfire focused on getting back up. When the shots destroy more of the side of the building she makes a slight exclaimation from the explosion and debris hitting her as she feels herself all onto a hard tile floor. She picks herself up slowly. looking a bit scruffed up and a little singed. Although Batman had gotten more of the impact from the explosions than she did since he was closer to it. She makes a face, it hurting a bit, but she doesn't care. she puts up a hand waving off her injuries. "Yeah, I've had worse." she gets up favoring one leg, she had landed on it wrong, but she ignores it. She looks over the edge of the gaping hole near the top of the room, looking for the gunman.
-Batman looked at her leg and said.- “Your leg is injured. We should get you to a hospital.” –Batman said shifting his gaze to the hold in the roof and then to the wall that was missing.- “Whoever that is, he intends to kill one of us…or both…You’re no good injured. He seems to know what he’s doing. If I draw his attention, can you escape?” –Batman’s words were calculating and strategizing.-
BlackCanary: Black Canary grumbles. "I'm fine. He certainly does seem to have a plan and knows us well. We can still take him out. I'm not backing out." she winces as she keeps walking on that injured leg, looking for the gunman. It doesn't look like she is going to escape because she is told to do so.
-Batman growled.- “This is beyond stupid. You’re against a superior foe who specializes in ranged attacks, you’re crippled and your movement speed is handica-…” –Batman was cut off when suddenly machine guns began spraying the building, the man stood across the street ontop of the roofs armed with two wrist cannons that were spraying the area with bullets, Batman was the only one in his line of fire, but, the interesting part was that almost every single bullet hit Batman throwing him onto the floor, Batman was cut up and hurt from the bullets until Batman aimed his wrist guards towards the man and then released them. The promethium blades slashed through air and sliced the gunman’s left arm cannon causing the pieces to shatter against the ground. Batman would back flip as the gunman reloaded and took cover.-
BlackCanary: She scowls as she is lectured by Batman, diving out of the way as the bullets fly past. She looks at batman concerned and then looks at gap in their crumbled building. She steps out as the gun is being reloaded, wincing on that leg, taking a deep breath in the process. Her hands make fists as she parts her lips and shrieks at the gunman hitting him with the full burst of her shriek, destroying any bullets he gets off lowing her head a bit to shriek down the building crumbling and blowing in the bricks beneath him. She isn't taking any chances with him. Her next move is to dive out of the way as her leg starts to give out.
-Batman watched as Black Canary began to fall but, so did the gunman. Raising his grappling hook above them, Batman waited for Black Canary to stop screaming before launching his grappling hook and swinging over to the building. Batman kicked opens the window to the apartment building. The man was nowhere to be found though. Batman then felt a gun press to the back of his head and countered by swinging his left elbow back towards his attacker knocking him backwards, a gunshot would discharge and hit Batman’s helmet causing a spark to ignite. Batman kicked the gunman as he fell backwards. Batman would then rush forward and grab the man by the collar and belt before throwing him into the wall.-
BlackCanary: She comes down hard on her hip wincing, just as Batman swings over her. She raises herself up watching as the scene unfolds before her, she can't scream while Batman is infront of the gunman, not wanting to injure both, surprised the man got up that fast. she hears and sees the gunshot and batman swirl around and heave the man into the wall. Knowing she is no good at this range and with Batman so close she starts to limp her way down and out of the building.
-The gunman would attempt to stand up but, Batman would grab him and slam him into another wall, cracking the wall as the gunman coughed in pain.- “You’re a lot stronger than I initially thought…Black tights and armor make you appear smaller as well.” –The gunman said as he rolled backwards. He stood up and aimed his wrist cannon at Batman, he fired multiple shots at Batman, plowing right into Batman’s chest and throwing him backwards. Batman rolled on the ground and fell into a closet. The Gunman adjusted his right optic scope on his eye before moving to the window and breaking through it as he raced up the fire escape to flee the scene. -Batman coughed as his armor was covered in dents and blast marks, his chest would probably be marked with red skin and bruises. He rolled forward and pushed off the wall to stand up as his hand covered his chest, he grunted in pain before reaching to his belt to grab a pain killer and tossing it into his mouth. -
BlackCanary: *Black Canary had found the elevator in the ruined building they were in, still favoring one leg. She exited the building and looked up just in time to hear the gunfire across the street. Her hands clenched into fists, her knuckles turning a little white. That's it, she had enough of this guy. She didn't care about Batman's warning or that he went and left her behind. She was going to stop this cocky thug. She hobbled aroudn the corner of the building and found her motorcycle behind a dumpster. She hopped on it and rode it into the building across the street, looking up she saw the gunman going up the fire escape. She revved her engine, going through open door of the building, broken from her canary cry earler. She rode down the hallway and skidded to a stop sideways infront of the elevator. Hitting the button and then riding into the open elevator car, going to the top floor. The doors opening, the bike roaring out, her look determined, blonde hair flying behind her. Looking for Batman or the stair way to the roof.
-Batman stumbled a bit more as he heard the motorcycle suddenly enter the building; he would raise an eye brow at the sound. He walked through the hole in the wall and spotted Black Canary, the sound of a helicopter over head was briefly heard as the vehicle seemed to be some kind of stealth vehicle, Batman walked to the window to the fire escape and saw the stealth vehicle fly off in the distance. Batman growled and narrowed his eyes, before turning his attention to Black Canary.- “And what do you call yourself?” –The sound of police sirens were beginning to close in, Batman then suggested.- “Lets go to the roof, my jet can pick us up…” –Batman used his control device to bring the Batwing over the building, a claw would extend and lower to pick up and store small vehicles inside it.-
BlackCanary: As she went down a hall, going faster as she heard the sound of a helicopter, hoping that she is wrong with what it meant, the thug was getting away. She spotted a crumbling wall with a large hole in it, with the Batman staring at her. She listened to his plan and nodded. She knew he had a lot at his command, more than she had or needed. But if he could get them to that gunman, she was all for it. She smirks and gesturees with her head behind her. "Hop on. I'll get us up there." She waits for him to get onto the long seat of the motorcycle and smiles looking behind her. "Hold on." as she revs the bike and zooms down the hallway and into a stairwell, going up towards the roof access, letting out a cry at the locked rooftop door causing it to go flying as she parks the bike with a sideways screech. "I'm Black Canary. Nice to meet you." she smirks, glancing over her shoulder at Batman. The claw coming down, scooping up the motorcyle and the two heroes into the batwing, she smiles enjoying the ride as they board the jet.
Batman wouldn’t race, he accepted defeat knowing that they wouldn’t be able to catch them in time, the helicopter they were after was a stealth helicopter, expensive as hell. They were after someone with a big wallet and for the mercenary to take a shot at Batman and Black Canary, he wasn’t cheap either. As they loaded into the storage pack of the Batwing, they would have to crawl to the front and back seats. Batman listened to her introduce herself, which he was briefly intrigued by her name.- “We’re not going after him…” –Batman’s growling voice said, he was defined and clear, making sure she wouldn’t make a mistake in his words. Suddenly the radar would begin beeping as two F-35’s began approaching.- “Now it’s your turn to hold on…” -the alarms began beeping as screens lit up to explain there was a missile lock. Batman activated the thrusters flew towards the outside of the city.- “Unidentified vehicle, you are to-…” –Batman shut off the communication speakers, a moment following the sound of machine guns blasting the tail of the vehicle could be heard. The metal breaking and yawning as shells pierced the armor, the Batwing barrel rolled into the city streets, weaving down low, just above the power lines, flag poles of the taller buildings were being broken as the Batwing scraped by them.-
BlackCanary: She crawled to the seat Batman pointed to her, not grunting as she had to put weight on her wounded leg. She scowled at Batman as he gave up on going after the helicopter. She could see it, an expensive model, as it became smaller and smaller as it got away. She was about to give him a piece of her mind, they could get him, but was interrupted by Batman's turn to tell her to hold on as the jet roared off. She heard the loud alerts as they were targeted. Hearing and feeling the bulletts tearing into the rear of the jet. She felt helpess, unable to help with what was becoming a firefight, she hated feeling helpless and scowled. Feeling the flag poles hitting and breaking off under the plane. "So what's the plan?" she asked as the Batwing, dove between narrow buildings.
“Lose the National guard…” –The batwing flew around a corner and then dove into the lower levels of the city, an underground street level, the Batwing lowered to the street and hovered at the level of a van, from Black canary’s position, it would appear like she was on the roof of the van. The narrow corridors of the lower streets made passing cars honk their horns and caused people to scream at them. After a few moments the batwing flew up onto the main city streets and the F-35’s were nowhere to be found. The radars were free of them as he went to set down and turn the engine and systems off in Gotham city park.- “Where do you want me to drop you off?”
BlackCanary: She smirks hearing they are avoiding the National Guard as the jet dove into the lower street levels. Watcing as he hovered so low, looking at the rooftops of the traffic and all the chaos from their deft weaving. Looking behind them as the Batwing screamed out into the main streets as it slowed down over the park. She looked behind her through the cockpit, seeing no more fighters behind them. She looked about the park as they started to land. "This is as good of place as any." she figured this was pretty neutral territory and didn't want Batman figuring out too much about her yet. She undoes her harness. "It was nice meeting you Batman. Too bad we didn't get that last Gunman though." her tone a little bitter at having lost one. "If you hear anything about him or whoever hired him let me know. I'd be glad to help." she smiles a bit more genuinely.
-He had the Batwing release the motorcycle before opening the cockpit doors and then reached to help her out of the vehicle, wrapping his arm around her as he pulled her out.- “How will I get in touch with you?” –Batman said with a confident smirk, as if cornering her on finding out more about her. When he pulled her out of the vehicle he would seemingly pin her against the hull of the Batwing with his left arm wrapped around her, his right hand placed at the side of her torso. She could push him away if she wanted to. He leaned closer to her, his face close to hers.- “You have real talent, it’s rare to see in a woman like you, Ms. Black Canary…” –He said, teasing her some with flirtatious comments.- “I might have an opportunity for you in the future…” –He said once again, allowing her mind to think about his words before he added.- “Only if you behave on the streets…”
BlackCanary: "A message on the police scanner, on one of the unused channels asking about bird sightings will work." she says nodding, glad he is taking her offer for her help. As she started to get out of the Batwing she reached out to take Batman's hand as he offered to help her out, a bit surprised as his strong arm went around her and lifted her out. He could feel her body flex instinctually at the grab, like she was ready to grapple or counter it, but she relaxed instead, soon finding herself pinned against the jet, her back up against the side, she smirks smiling back at him, unable to help but liking his smirk and confidence. A slight blush appears on her cheeks at his praise, that surprising her more than anything, it betraying her cool demeanor. "Thanks, it's quite the compliment coming from such a skilled fighter as yourself." She smiles thinking about the offered opportunies and then gives a low laugh as he adds his warning to behave. "Hehe, I can't promise about behaving on the streets." she leans in, her lips barely an inch away from his own. "But I promise that I will consider your offer. We do make a good team."
-Batman felt her breathing on him and as she exchanged the playful behavior. He pulled back his right hand from her side, raising it to her cheek to caress her while subtly giving her permission to leave.- “You don’t even know what the offer is…Who knows, we might be better doing other things together than just fighting crime…” –Batman thought.- ‘Another stale mate, we were both holding back. She found me interesting; I felt the same for her.’ –His blues eyes studied her blue eyes, as time seemed to freeze for the moment between them. She wasn’t exactly the iconic example of a hero or vigilante but, she had noble traits; fearless, dangerous, and strong. He also found her alluring because of her alias, the mystery of the woman with the voice of a siren.-
BlackCanary: She slowly closes her eyes as he brushes her cheek, opening them just as slowly as he spoke. With his arm up, she is able to move a bit more freely, but she stays, so close to him. She reaches up and touches his waist, holding him gently, but close. "Perhaps." her eyes twinkle and flash as she teases, gazing into his blue eyes for a long moment. Obviously enjoying a game with someone as skilled as herself "We might never know unless we explore all our capabilities together." She had to admit to herself that she was drawn to him. He was strong, skilled, and headstrong, things she valued highly. She leaned in a little bit more as if she was going to kiss him, when her weight shifted and she easily spun to the side, using her hand on his waist to swing around him. Her lips now next to where his ear is, within his cowel. "I do hope to hear from you again." she smiles and kisses the side of his mask. She slowly let go of him, her fingers trailing across his back as she made her way to her bike, limping a little. Swinging her bad leg up onto the motorcycle but not wincing.
-Her hand moving to his stomach, as she seemed to move he closed his eyes to take in the sensation of her, he could feel her loose strands of hair brush across his face as her head tilted to his ear as she spoke softly to him, he hardened his body as she used it to spin around him and begin walking away, he grinned, watching her leave, after a moment when she started up her bike and left. Batman then took the Batwing back to the Batcave where he began researching the gunman and his stealth helicopter. The next day, the news would report on the events of Batman last night, blaming Batman for the destruction of the various buildings. When suddenly a new report came out that caused a lot of outrage.--The media continued to throw microphones in the face of Commissioner Gordon as he pushed through the angry mob of media and citizens.- “Commissioner! Commissioner!” –was constantly shouted as people wanted his attention and response, he would stop and growl.- “Regarding this case I have nothing to comment! A young child was attacked by a rabid dog pumped with steroids and was used in an underground dog gambling ring. The Falcone family is nothing more than a suspect in this issue and that is all. I’m sure you’re all familiar with slander laws that forbid personal opinion and comments from Gotham City police department. That is all, Thank you!” –Harvey Bullock pushed the media frenzy aside as the group of detectives moved to a squad car.- “ ’Et ‘outta tha’ way ya’ chumps!”
BlackCanary: The siren rode off giving a slight wave as her she vanished into the depths of the park, smiling to herself. Almost forgetting the sting of the gunman who got away. The next day she spent most of the day in her floral shop perched on a high stool, her flowers within reach, not betraying that she had an injured leg. Her dark slacks covering her deeply bruised thigh. A small tv under her counter showing the news. She couldn't help but smile as the destroyed buildings were mentioned, thinking about their bout with the gunmen, who were obviously left out of the report. Wondering who the last gunman was, who clearly knew about her and Batman's capabilities. She would have to ask her friend on the police force if they could look up any potential gunmen for hire who might have matched his description. As she was thinking of how to bring up the subject she heard Commissioner Gordon's statement about the young child who was in the hospital from the dog attack. She thumbed through her book of today's floral deliveries and saw several for the hospital for the child. She might have to make those deliveries herself and check with the parents to see where the attack occurred, could help her narrow down where the dog was being kept or where the dog fights took place. Might give her some good leads. She hurried on the floral orders so she would be ready for some further investigating that night.
-Bruce was watching the news reels and stopped upon the story, an update on the report would explain that another child was found torn to pieces by canine attackers, while the child in the hospital died just moments ago. Bruce narrowed his eyes at the screens before shifting to look at the computer monitor to begin typing in cock fights in Gotham, he immediately found various sites, he began researching dog fighting areas and found a few leads, he scanned over them and one of them mentioned a contact. ‘Antonio Dalen’ –Bruce smirked and pulled up the man’s file in the Bat computer, Antonio Dalen was apparently the an associate with the Falcone family, he was an external contact.- -He would wait another 3 or so days before setting out; it was Friday night, the police were probably looking to secure the bars of rowdy people that they weren’t looking amongst the neighborhoods, on the police scanner a casual conversation about a canary being spotted in North section of Gotham park was released by a voice creation device. Batman waited in the park, listening for any sign of a motorcycle or of Black Canary, it was worth a shot to see if she would show up or not. Batman crouched in a tree and patiently waiting.-
BlackCanary: Dinah sighed as she heard the updates on the dog attacks. She sadly looked down at the playfull bouqet she was making for the child in the hopsital and started pulling out the brighter flowers. Over the next couple of days she got more orders for flowers for both children's funerals keeping her ears open, finding a couple sections of town she needed to look into. Each day her leg got better, able to stand on it fully by the end of the week. Late on Friday night as she was closing up the shop she heard a single beep from behind the counter. She went to the back room and accessed the secret panel to enter her secret room. She went to the modified police scanner she had back there, she activated the playback mode and heard the message of the bird sighting. She smiled and quickly finished closing up the shop and was soon riding down the streets on her Purple Motorcycle. She slowed down as she got to the park riding around the North end of it, looking for one of her contacts or trouble.
-He waited a few more minutes before spotting her from the sound of the motorcycle, he didn’t express anything but, he jumped down from the tree, his cape flapped open, sprawling about the area as he landed and stood in open light of a street lamp. The park would seem empty but, Batman would still stand out as he appeared like a large shadow amongst light. He waited for her approach before he said.- “I’m surprised that you came…”I have a follow up on our assassin…His name is Floyd Lawton, known as Deadshot. He is a genetically enhanced human. He underwent a surgical procedure to attach and connect a cybernetic implant on his right eye. It would explain a lot, his accuracy is very lethal and apparently he was assigned to protecting those thugs stealing from that electronic hardware store.” -Batman’s voice was deep and soft while he explained to her the details of about Deadshot.- “You are very lucky he didn’t kill you.” –Batman then turned to look towards the traffic in the distance.- “Have you been keeping track of the news? Rabid dog killings, without my name attached, the media and the police are unable to declare who is at fault for the murders. I have some information, possible locations as to where some dog rings are.”
BlackCanary: As she was near the center of the the North End of the park she saw a shadow blot out the street light ahead of her, she slowed down as the shadow took the shape of a large bat, she skidded to a stop smirking at Batman. She got off her bike and closed the space between them, smirking. "I didn't think anything suprised you. I told you I would, didn't I?" she tucked some stray blonde hair behind an ear. She listened intently on the information Batman had gathered on the Deadshot. "Hm, seems like a lot of support for some young thugs robbing an electronic store. We should see what was so special about those parts. Does expalin why he knew about my talents, the boy did his homework." she brushed off Batman's comment about her being lucky. "It wasn't just luck. Skill and a well trained ally helps." she smiles. She nods as he brings up the rapid dog incidents. "Yeah, I heard about them. I heard from my sources of a couple of location for the dogs too." she smiles waiting for batman to show and tell.
“The neighborhoods on the west end of Gotham, the lower narrows have basements that seem to be a good place to start. At this time at night, it shouldn’t be too hard to find out what’s going on…” –Batman pulled a control device off his belt and commanded the Batpod to intercept him. She would hear a soft squeal as the Batpod rode forward any stopped alongside him. The forward cannons made the vehicle appear intimidating as it rolled to a stop. Batman climbed on top of it.- “Follow me.” –Batman drove out to the narrows; he pulled into an alleyway and jumped off his batpod. Equipping his grappling gun to shoot it towards the rooftops and then he offered a hand to her for her to hold onto him.- “Starting from the rooftops is the best place…The buildings and streets are close, we’ll require fewer gadgets…” -If she went up to the rooftops with him, he would release her promptly upon climbing onto the roof. He reloaded the gun and then pulled off his belt an earpiece that he offered to her.- “This will let you communicate with me, in case we get separated.”
BlackCanary: She nods as Batman talks about his first lead, she had heard that one victim was in the part of town. She smiles as the Batpod rode up beside him like a trained pet. She smirks at the big cannons on it, but holds her tongue. As Batman got ready to ride off she got on her own bike and followed after him. Deftly manuvering around traffic and bends as she follwed him, stopping behind him and dismounting her motorcycle. She nods, thinking his plan sounded fine, but they would eventually have to go nearer the basement level to check things out. She smiled as he offered his hand and took it, wrapping an arm about his waist, pressing in close agaisnt his side as he fired it and the rocketed into the sky landing on the rooftop. she usually climbed her way up, but she couldn't resist an offer like that. She felt him let go as soon as their feet landed on the roof and started walking along the edge of the roof looking for lit basements and foot traffic. She turned as he offered the earpiece smiling and thanking him. "Hopefully we won't get seperated like last time." she smirks and dashes off, building up a little speed as she gracefully jumps over an alley, still running as she lands on it. She slows down and peers into the streets below.
-Batman watched as she took lead, he crouched down some and began following her, making him appear smaller. As Batman walked to follow Black Canary’s steps, his attention would turn as he heard a scream from a woman.- “Give me my purse!” –Batman walked towards the edge of the building and watched the scene unfold. He would speak into the earpiece.- “There’s something going on…A thug stealing a purse…Don’t engage.” –The thug kicked the woman and knocked her onto the ground, and then he kicked her again in the stomach.- Batman: ‘Right. Stand here and watch this piece of trash beat a woman after taking her purse.’ -Batman waited a moment before arming his grappling hook but, then the thug began running down the street leaving the woman to crunch up on the side of the street.- -Batman spoke into his microphone.- “The thug is heading your way, follow him…” –Batman jumped off the rooftop and spread his cape, landing near the woman, he quickly began examining her condition, she was bruised some but, nothing more. Batman pulled out his cryptographer, the device would hack into the internet of the area building in front of him and submit a message to the police station regarding the woman’s condition. He closed the cryptographer and turned around to chase after the thug.-
BlackCanary: Black Canary heard the scream and turned, but Batman was closer and it sounded like he was on it. Hearing that the woman was being assalted she started to move, just as Batman said don't engage. She stopped, figuring he was going to swoop down to her rescue, but she watched him just stand there. As if reading her thoughts of going down and taking out the trash, he interrupted her on the head piece telling her to stay put and watch what was going on. Her hands balled up into fists, she couldn't just stand by like this, sure she was willing to help, but she didn't knew if she agreed with his plans. She didn't have time to think on it further as the thug ran off and Batman gave her the heads up. She saw him coming and darted after him, timing herself, lightly going across the rooftops like a shadow. The man slowed down after a bit, making sure he wasn't being followed, he took the money out of the purse and tossed it in a dumpster, pocketing the money. He was going somewhere he was carefully looking about the buildings, looking for something, he seemed to get his bearings and ducked down a staircase to a back door of a lower level of a building. A bouncer was guarding it and he mumbled someting to him and slipped him some of the money from the woman's purse. She looked over her shoulder and Batman wasn't there, he must have taken care of the woman. She smiled a little, glad he was helping her. She activated her ear piece. "We're down about 4 blocks and 3 blocks east. He entered a guarded door and used the woman's money to get in. No windows."
-Batman followed behind to the last known location when he lost Black Canary and the thug.- “Blac-…” –He was cut off by her explaining her location, he would activate his detective vision and spot her a in the long distance.- “I’m on my way, stay there.” –He said, ensuring that she doesn’t rush in alone. Batman would take about five minutes to get there but, he wouldn’t show up or around her, ten minutes would start to roll by and there was still an absence from him. He didn’t say anything, even if she were to speak to him, he wouldn’t respond. It would seem like a complete radio black out and silence, a couple more people would approach the building and pass the guard, once more reminding her the time elapse.-
BlackCanary: She waited patiently, walking around the rooftops, looking for other entrances, keeping an eye on Batman and any other 'patrons' going into the building. There was an old drug store on top but it looked to be vacant. It might have access downstairs, but with as much dust as she could see from the street lamp she doubted if anyone used it, if there was one. 10 minutes passed and she was starting to get anxious and antsy. "Hey, are you there? I thought you would be here by now, please give me a sign that you are nearby." she waited another 5 minutes, watching more people trickle into the building. Either something happened to him or he was doing one of his plans again and leaving her in the cold. She could already see he was making sure she wouldn't just jump into the frey. She could understand it, but it did frustrate he a little. "Okay, I can't wait any longer. I'll give you one minute to conatct me, otherwise I am going in alone."
-Batman’s footsteps would click from behind her as she finished her sentence.- “A parameter is set. I’ve set some traps for anyone who might try to escape, and even a few tricks for us should we need a narrow escape.” –He walked towards the edge of the roof and looked at the guard.- “I’m glad you could wait. I was close to them, there’s at least 50 people down there, the building itself is a cover. The backroom has a carpet that is guarded by two men, under the carpet is a staircase…Things will get ugly. This won’t be like going 15 rounds consecutively, it’ll be worse and a lot quicker.”
BlackCanary: She turned around at the footsteps, getting into a fighting stance, she relaxed it a little seeing it was Batman, but her irritation at having waited so long was still there, her muscles a little tense. She listened to his update, thinking that he might be a bit too prepared, but she was playiing his game so she kept quiet about it. She nods. "Thanks for looking into it." she smirks as he says it would be worse than going 15 round with 50 people. "only that? sounds like they leaving things easy for us tonight." she winks at him and gets up on the cement wall boarding the rooftop, she stands onit and bouces a little on the balls of her feet, looking a bit excited ready to go. she peers down. "Want to get things started then? or shall I?" she smiles at Batman.
-He are aimed his line launcher and fired a shot through a window across the rooftops. Once more offering to swing her across with him, but once landing he immediately moved towards the stairs leading down and spotted the two men talking.- “So the German kicks the Jew out of the plane and says-…” –Batman would suddenly spring towards both men knocking one over while causing the other to back up, Batman hurled his batarang at the remaining guy who he was not on top of and sliced the man’s hand wielding a gun. Turning his attention to the man in front of him, Batman slammed his fist into the guards face knocking him out cold.
BlackCanary: Seeing batman take action, she takes his hand for his offer as he zips them inside, only able to watch as Batman bowls over one man and disarms the other. As he takes out the guard behind him, she dashes past them and does a kick sweeping up , hitting the man just under the chin and knocking him back into the wall. She pivots on her other foot, following the momentem of the kick, letting the other foot come up to give another blow to his head. She turns around grabs the rug and pulls it off with a flourish, grabbing the ring handle for the trap door and opening it. She follows Batman down the stair case, hearing the roar of the crowd and growling and barking dogs. She peers around the corner and gives the guy who was leaning a kick, knocking him into the guy he was exchangign money with. A man behind her charges her swinging and she grabs his arm flipping him onto his back onto the two men behind her, ready for more. Her blue eyes flashing, fighting like a wild animal.
-The men would begin to roar as they saw Black Canary whip into action, large men weighing two hundred and thirty pounds or more rushed towards her but, as they went to attack Black Canary, they were met with two smoke bombs exploding in their face causing them to wheeze and tear. Batman tumbled past Black Canary and threw a kick at one bouncer and knocked the 230 pound man over the rings cage and on top of two dogs savagely biting each other. When the bouncer fell the dogs yelped in pain as they backed away from each other with their tail tucked between their legs, after a delay the dogs began biting the man savagely. Batman ignore them however and grabbed the other bouncer by the wrist for a moment, Batman’s hand then shifted to take form with the bouncers hand and began folding it. The Bouncer’s palm began collapsing towards his wrist and a burst of pain shot through his body. -Batman brought the man to his knees as he was coughing and now crying with pain. Batman then slammed his knee into the bouncers face knocking him down. Batman suddenly felt a pair of arms grab him from behind, instinctively Batman whipped his head back and slammed the back of his helmet into the man’s nose, a loud squash could’ve been heard by anyone nearby but, the roar of men angry at Black Canary and Batman’s appearance would drown out the sound of the nose being broken. Batman crouched and reached behind him and grabbed onto the man’s arm and slugged him over Batman’s shoulder, slamming him down onto the ground, Batman would then stomp on the man’s shoulder, causing a loud crack to as the man’s shoulder popped and became dislocated.-
BlackCanary: She hears the the smoke bombs go off charges the other way, two of the gamblers come at her from both sides, she elbows one thrusting up into his chin while kicking the other one away, still pressing forward. Meeting a man lunging at her she grabs his shoulders and flips over him landing bhehind him still holding his shoulders she flips him into a couple other guys closing in on her, knocking them out of the way as she brings up an arm defelcting a strike from the guy she kicked, giving him several quick jabs and an uppercut, making sure he is down for the count. She looks over her shoulder at Batman and flashes him a quick smile, watching as he slams a man down and dislocates his shoulder.
‘We fought long and hard, they seemed never ending, their numbers, I lost count around twenty men but, my helmet’s display kept me aware of how many were still a threat.’ –Batman was kicked which he swiftly lifted his leg and kicked the thugs toes, deflecting the thugs attack but, then Batman turned of his heel and kicked backwards, delivering a powerful kick to the man’s stomach knocking him back. It was then Batman heard the guns roaring at them as owners prepared to release the hounds on Batman and Canary.- ‘Oh look, teeth…’ –Batman then growled.- “You’ve got dogs, wish I thought about that…” –The thugs began grinning as they slowly allowed their dogs to pull them forward.- ‘Steroids…these dogs looked more like pigs…One shot should be enough…Their body’s immune system is probably shot to hell.’ -Batman’s hands slipped out of his cape pockets small throwing darts that he swiftly hurled at the dogs, stabbing them in the shoulder and chest, the dogs yelped as they were stabbed and immediately began spinning around. They would suddenly lose their temper and charge at Batman but, in a split second they would drop onto the ground or cross into a wall.- Batman crossed his arms looking at the men, they began arming knives but, Batman armed a bola device and hurled three of them, coiling up the three men. He looked to Canary and shouted.- “I’m clear over here…”
BlackCanary: Black Canary keeps fighting, hardly aware of the numbers surrounding her. Seeing some of them coming back after a throw or kick to get more. she has few bruises, from a few hits and kicks which got her, but overall keeping her own, surrounded by many unconscious or moaning bodies. She dives down at the gunfire and gets back up into a fighting stance ready to charge 3 of the men focused on her, when she sees their enraged dogs. As batman takes down the dogs going after him. She takes a deep breath, widening her stance and arching her back. She lets loose a high keening screech at the mad dogs, knocking them off their feet, sending them whimpering into their owners who clamp at their own ears as they are knocked off their feet and slam hard into a wall causing it to crack. She finishes the cry and pauses a moment to catch her breath and bearings, before going up to the men to make sure them and their dogs are unconscious. She looks up at batman and smiles as he shouts his 'all clear', nodding. "Me too. Did we get them all?" she still looks a bit winded, but still looks around at the mess in their wake.
-Batman looked to Black Canary and then heard a groan; a man buried underneath two other men, this guy was crawling for a gun just barely out of his reach. Batman slowly approached him and reached to pick up the gun, he didn’t grip the trigger or handle as he gently held the gun by the barrel with his index and middle fingers while his little finger rested on the handle. Batman kneeled before the man and said.- “Who was the leader here?” –The man began to cry.- “My hand…I think it’s broken…” –Batman watched as he tried to change the subject but, Batman’s hand reached out and slammed the thugs face into the floor causing his nose to pop loudly.- “Ow! Fucking Christ!” -Batman would growl.- “Who was in charge here? Unless you want to spend the next few days wondering how long it takes for an ear to heal…” –Batman gave the man a few moments as his eyes were tearing from the suddenly pain in his nostrils.- “Some guy name Arnold Faulton…He runs the Faulton casino down town for his poppy, Richard Faulton…He’s not gonna be happy about none of this…You’re only setting ‘yous’ selves up with a death wish…These places are a lot of doe…” –Batman looked at Black Canary before looking around for anyone else while the thug spoke when the thug finished Batman narrowed his eyes and grabbed the man by the shirt.- “You’re going to tell me where the other “Places” are…”
Blackcanary: As Batman interrogated the man Black Canary watched smiring a bit. Glad that he was getting the infomation from the thug, even if it took some extra 'convincing'. She checked on the other thugs to make sure they were sleeping soundly and started to collect their guns, unloading them and putting the guns and amunition in seperate piles listening to the thug whimper and blubber about what he knows. As he mentions "death wish" she smiles at him as he looks her over. "Well, that's for us to worry about. We flirt with death all the time." She goes over to the unconscious dogs and starts to move them a bit towards a corner where there is a large pipe running down it, tying their leashes to it, so they won't cause trouble if they wake up early. She keeps an eye on the thug and Batman ready to step in, if she is needed. She thinks about the Faulton Casino. She knows exactly where that is down by the river. There had been rumors of some crooked games there, but never enough proof to do anything about it.
-Batman stood up when the man gave him two more addresses to follow up and investigate Batman commanded the man.- “Stay here until the police show up…Tell them everything you just told me…” –Batman looked to Black Canary.- “Are you ready?” –He didn’t understand why she was cleaning up the place but, with her lack of body armor and protection, perhaps it was safer. Batman then spotted a cell phone on one of the guard’s persons. He smirked as he picked it out of their pocket and armed his cryptographer; flipping open a small gadget that connected into the cellphone the cryptographer downloaded the files off the phone before Batman dropped the phone onto the man. The cryptographer would begin flipping through the phone numbers. Batman began leaving and said to her, I’ll have to disarm my traps before we leave…If you want to go and retrieve your bike, by all means…I have the ride already on its way…”
Black Canary: As Batman checked on Black Canary he saw she was looking through one of the men's bilfolds taking notes in a small slim notepad, which he didn't see her have out earlier. Especially since she doesn't have pockets in her costume. She nods as batman asks if she is ready and she nods, tucking the bilfold back into the man's jacket. She looks over her notes as she walks over to him. "Yes, good to go. I got most of their names, and some contacts from the business cards which were on them." She looks at Batman using his device on the phone. "Okay, sounds good. Want to meet at my bike then?" she smiles as she passes him, making her way to the stairs. One of the dogs starts to stir and she walks around it. She looks sadly at the dog, feeling pity for it being trained and raised in such a manner.
“Alright…” –Batman made sure to follow behind her when they reached upstairs the guard outside had probably fled and managed to avoid being caught in one of Batman’s traps. Batman collected up his traps and then mounted onto the batpod and went to intercept Black Canary’s location where he expressed his next idea.- “We can hit up the last two places tonight and then we can do some digging on the casino…No doubt if the Falcones are involved, they’ll want a meeting within the family…I’m willing to bet the casino will be involved along with Faulton.”
