#1 Diagnosis: Mad Love
Story By: Batman, Harleen Quinzel
Heroes: Batman, Robin I, and Batgirl I
Villains: The Joker and Harley Quin
Plot: It's all fun and games until somebody loses a whoopee cushion! A new Doctor at Arkham Asylum takes charge of overseeing the Joker's treatment, equipped with a PHD, a professional manner, and mission to uncover her mysterious past, Doctor Harleen Quinzel seems to be a promising new candidate at Arkham Asylum that is until she meets the infamous Clown Prince of Crime.
-The door opened and Doctor Armstrong entered into the cell holding a notepad.- “I’m back again, Mister. Jay…” –The Doctor took a seat as two guards stood behind the doctor, from the corner his eyes were painted with dust chiseled from the walls outside his cell, the powder helped maintain the white war paint that had been wearing off as his skin regenerated over time. Green opals studied Doctor Armstrong, a man who was hell bent on curing his patient, in particular the strongest of them, the most severe case. John Doe AKA The Joker’s head shivered as his gaze settled upon the Doctor until a flick, a twitch suddenly shifted to the two guards.- “I…I don’t trust them.” –He stated, his torso began rocking in motion of forward and back. Armstrong smiled and said.- “Why is that? Do they remind you of your father? Why don’t you tell me more about him?” <c>
-Aaron Cash stood with his hands dangling from his belt buckle with his thumbs hooked onto the nylon strap. Sergeant Cash smirked confidently at The Joker, almost daring the patient to try something against the young African man in his prime. Cash had done some time in the Navy and was considered top rung in boxing, there was nothing this skinny CLOWN in women’s make up and anti-social personality could do. Cash was confident that the Joker would be on the ground before he could snap his teeth. Doctor Armstrong turned to Cash.- “I think your services can wait outside…Please.” –Aaron looked at the Doctor, sizing the man’s physical appearance. Doctor Armstrong was relatively a healthy man, capable of lifting his own weight, clearly he was some sort of cardio junky keeping himself fit with jogging.- <c>
-Armstrong took off his glasses and smiled at Aaron.- “Aaron, I got this…I’ve worked with patients for almost 25 years.” –Aaron nodded slowly and then said.- “Don’t worry Doc, if anything happens, we’ll be right here.” – With the guards leaving the room, Armstrong turned his attention to the Joker.- “Alright, Mr. Jay…So, how are you feeling?” –The Joker’s green opals shifted into sorrow.- “I’ll admit, doc…I’m feeling a bit lonely as of lately.” –The Doctor tapped his pen against his chin.- “Lonely?” –The Joker sniffled sincerely and then said.- “Yea.” –He leaned forward and propped his hands onto his elbows and lowered his head.- “I had all kinds of friends…Sharks, Plants, Scoundrels, Jesters, Kings, Queens, an ace occasionally, oh! And even a cat. I had a cat once. I like cats. They don’t scare me.” –The Doctor began taking notes.- “And these ‘Friends’ are all in the metaphorical sense?” <c>
-The Joker’s mood began picking up as he raised an eyebrow at the Doctor, as if the doctor suddenly grew three heads.- “No…There was Snoutster and Finny.” –The Doctor furrowed his brows and began speaking.- “What about these other friends, what happened to them?” “Well, Chuckles and Wiz were both too grounded. I couldn’t breathe. And let’s be realistic…No one likes competition and I’ve known some who can really knock ’em dead. Heh...hehe.” –The Doctor’s face took to being blank as he watched the Joker more. The Joker continued.- “Then well…my cat…” –The Joker’s voice faded into more depression. The Doctor leaned a little closer and spoke.- “Tell me about your cat.” –The Joker stood up from his seat alarming the guards to burst into the room.- “DON’T MOVE!” –The Joker froze and seemed shocked, Armstrong waved.- “Stand down…He hasn’t done anything. I don’t need you scaring my patients, Sergeant.” –The Joker smirked at Cash as the guard left the room once again.- <c>
-The Joker then proceeded.- “She was very, very special. She was black, brown, and red.” –The Doctor quirked an eyebrow. The Joker then asked.- “Are you a cat person, Doctor?” –The Doctor nodded.- “I have two Siamese. Tell me more about your cat.” –The Joker frowned.- “She was like a best friend….The only friend I ever had to be honest. But she took him over me.” –The Doctor began writing.- “Him?” –The Joker sniffled.- “Yes…Him.” “I’m assuming another cat?” –The Joker quirked an eyebrow at the Doctor, eyeing over the man’s brown and silver tipped hair.- “No, she wouldn’t take another cat over me. But…” –The Joker puckered his lips and slapped them against each other. <C>
The thing about cats, they know no morals.” –The Doctor nodded slowly and began writing.- “I see.” –The Joker nodded walking towards the cell door, visible to the guards, stepping close to the one way mirror.- “Cats act on instinct…You can’t expect to own a cat, they will do whatever they want with whoever they want…I like that about cats. The energy to be a Go-getter.” –The Joker swung his fist in a jolly manner across his stomach.- “So, Mister Jay….What did this cat run off after if it wasn’t another cat?” –The Joker grinned, the Doctor suddenly felt a shiver creep down his spine.- “She ran off with my soulmate…” –The Doctor’s eyes widened in surprise.- “I see…Was your cat taken from you?” <c>
-The Joker’s rubbed his eyes in frustration.- “No…No…No. You’re not listening.” –The Joker sat down and rubbed his temples. The Doctor slapped his pen against his paper and said.- “Okay, start from the-…” –The Joker spoke.- “She…uh….well…SHE…went after….HIM…” –The Joker’s lips became flat and his face held an “oh well.” Expression, as if he had gotten over it.- “I see….And who is this other person?” “My soulmate.” –The Doctor sighed.- “And who is your soulmate?” –The Joker raised an eyebrow.- “I can’t tell you…It’s a secret.” –The Doctor raised an eyebrow.- “You wouldn’t have brought it up unless you wanted to talk about it. I think your soulmate is important to this.” <c>
“He is…” –The Joker said with despair in his tone. The Doctor then spoke.- “In other interviews, it’s stated that you refer to various other people as soulmates, however, this CAT has never been a part of anything ever on record.” –The Joker nodded.- “Yeah…?” “My point is, I think for once, Mister Jay, you’re being truthful and it’s a wonderful start in your recovery.” –The Joker blinked.- “Really? So I can go home now?” –The Doctor chuckled.- “Ha ha, not quite yet, Mister Jay. Not quite.” –The Joker sighed and said.- “Wanna know the secret?” –The Doctor stood up to leave when he heard the Joker speak, nodded the Doctor took a seat and watched. The Joker stood up and approached the mirror to begin breathing hot hair onto it. <C>
The hair built into steam fogging the window and then the Joker leaned close placing his index finger into the fog. He began drawing a design; a shape, point upon point. A curve after curve, the design was familiar.- “Batman?” –The Joker sniffled.- “When I get out of here tonight, I will see him…Maybe forever.” –The Doctor smiled.- “Somehow, Mister Jay, I think by the time you’re out of here, he will be taking up residence here. Let us pray for that.” –The Joker smiled at the Doctor.- “Thank you, Doctor, I like you…Do you want to be my friend?” –The Doctor smiled and nodded.- “No problem and yes, I would like to be your friend.” –The Joker held his hand out to the Doctor.- “I hope to see you soon, my friend.” –The Joker’s green eyes pierced into the Doctor’s brown eyes, as their hands took grip of each other.- <c>
The Joker pulled the Doctor closer and wrapped an arm around the Doctor’s throat to take him hostage, Aaron Cash jumped through the door armed with his stun baton, swinging the baton to shock the Joker, it would be vane as the Doctor screamed in pain from being struck, the Joker giggled wrestling the doctor and two security guards, The Joker’s foot kicked Cash in the stomach throwing him backwards and onto the Joker’s bed, twisting the Doctor’s arm as he leaped out of the room, the Joker kicked the Doctor and the second security guard into the room while closing the door behind him.- “It’s been fun, but I have to see hi-…” –The Joker felt a firm hand gripping the back of his neck and slamming his face against the cement wall of the asylum.- <C>
-The Joker giggled.- “Awh…You visit but don’t write?” –The tall shadow, blue eyes, large size of the man dressed in a cape and armor. Batman grabbed the Joker by the throat and slammed him into the wall. Batman’s plated knuckle smashed into the Joker’s stomach causing the clown to giggle and wheeze in pain. In a few moments the Joker would be returned to his cell, bruised, beaten, and giggling.- “Rabbit season…no! Duck season! Hehe, ha ha! Till we meet again, Batzo! Bring flowers!” –Batman stood in the hallway watching the guards pull the Joker away. Commissioner Gordon came to stand beside Batman.- “The new doctors for this place are coming in…25 years on the job or less…” –Batman spoke in a dark tone.- “I read the manifest…” “Anyone who stands out?” –Batman nodded.- “Harleen Quinzel…She’s young and managed to obtain a PHD.” –Gordon stroked his chin.- “I see. I suppose society is getting smarter. <c>
Kids having PHD just out of university. Do you…” –Gordon shifted to look for Batman, however, The Dark Knight had disappeared.-
