Her breath came out shallow and quick. Her whole body felt like it was soaked in sweat yet she was shivering. Each step she took now wobbled and the only thing that held her up right was her numb palm pressed against a wall. She was unaware of where she was or how she had gotten there. Her mind was in a thick haze due to the recent events. She has stupidly gotten she self mixed up with Scarecrow. It wasn’t supposed to end like this. Catgirl had moved too slowly and now she’d pay for it. Around her were loud inaudible noises. Gun shots perhaps but she couldn’t be sure.
“H… have to get home.” Her voice said but it was unsure if she had spoken. Her vision blurred for the second time, in perfect timing her foot caught against a randomly thrown box. Her body slammed against the ground pain rattled through her side. Her lips parted a groan escaped as she forced herself to sit up. She was slumped forward both hands useless at her sides but in luck the loud sounds were silent. In the silence the only noise was her breath until she could faintly hear two footsteps. Slowly her head rose to see a dark figure approach at an unusual slow pace. Kitrina dropped her head again. Soon the foot steps were louder and a shadow cast over her.
“Get up!” The familiar voice was easy to identify. It was her uncle. Unknown to her, Kitrina was still alone in that sloppy alley but the chemical was surging through her veins.
Kitrina body shook, her heart pounded and she wanted to cry. A boot flashed before her eyes then pain rattled through her ribs. In a second she was on her back staring up at her uncle’s angry face. Kitrina held up her hands to shield herself. She needed to get away from him. Her eyes had bubbled with tears.
“Fear is a powerful thing.” Another voice said before it laughed.
She rolled onto her side but didn’t curl up or even let out a sob. Despite her stubbornness to get up she wanted to curl up and sob. Instead she propped herself onto her elbow and sat back up. As much as she wanted to give up she wouldn’t allow herself to.
“You are a useless waste of space. No one will love you. No one will care. No one cares about you! Useless girl!“ Mario shouted angrily as his foot swung forward to kick her again. Kitrina held up her hand to catch it. Her palm cried in pain as she winced but didn’t release his foot.
“Get outta here!” She snapped in defiance her hand shoved his foot away. She finally struggled to stand up, both knees wobbled when she did.
“You have nothing on me now! Get out!” Kitrina shouted but the ghost figure of her uncle snarled. “Go on! Go Away! I’m free!” She screamed her fist threw itself towards him but in an instance he was gone. Since she made contact with nothing her body sprawled against the ground once more. Kitrina laid there with her cheek against the filthy ground, her breath still shallow. Kitrina’s body shook again, a sob leaked free of her throat and she let tears flood down her cheeks. A new shadow in came but this one was more welcoming. It was a familiar shadow that usually Kitrina dreaded. A weak smile grew on her face. She had never been so glad to see a shadow of a bat…
