Hello everyone,
I’m making this announcement to address a recent survey I took of Batman Inc players regarding timelines, story arcs, and remaking comic story plots. The purpose was to gather a sense of what you, the players, want. It’s always been my objective to give people freedom to RP and this is no exception. To players who want the ability to freely write as they wish, not worrying about where there character ends up, you’re free to do so. If someone includes you into a roleplay you don’t want to do, you don’t have to be there. It’s an invitation, not a mandatory draft.
Some players were confused by the whole post, not understanding how someone could not ‘feel’ the freedom to illustrate the characters, and for most of you I can say I agree. For those who have felt suppressed by me, I intend for that to no longer be an issue. The only thing myself and the admins will reinforce is *some* level of integrity for the characters. (e.g) Tim Drake smoking weed because that’s his favorite past time. Players always will have control over their characters and that is always the bottom line when it comes to writing, regardless of how inaccurate or unrealistic it may read. If you say you dodged a bullet in a corridor with 2 feet of space, then you’ve dodged that bullet. You choose to go along with the elements of any story you’re apart of for sake of growing your character and developing them. If you've lost interested in participating in the story, promptly tell the manager of it and write an escape post. This is basic RP knowledge and I want to reiterate it for everyone to be on the same page.
(About Batman the Character)
As for my plans with Batman I intend to erase all story arcs that aren't currently being written and I will be writing out any characters who have not expressed interest in being in the arcs. I want to run these stories because they are critical to my character’s development. Any ideas, plans, visions, or plots for other characters have been completely stripped from stories with Batman. I’m here to RP as Batman, I still enjoy the character and I want to play him. I have a vision for what I want to do with the character and it will likely take him in the direction that Chris Nolan has taken Batman where he’s more of a solo character than a team player. I will state that if you *need* Batman to make a cameo appearance for 2 words, or show up to get the crap beaten out of him I’m all for doing that if it will help your story or your roleplay. Having Batman show up for no purpose at all is not what I’m talking about here and I have declined RPing in Slade’s ideas because they are “generic” and vague to help players explore and develop themselves. They’re roles that any character can do and doesn’t matter whether it’s Batman, Superman, or Martian Manhunter. To new players, I recommend these kinds of stories. If you want Batman to show up, there has to be a purpose that only he can fulfill and no other character, whether its convenience, father-figure, or some other role that puts him there.
Thank you for taking your time to read this and I hope it’s insightful and I hope it offers some solace, resolve, and possibly adventure to your imagination.
