Gotham Merchants Bank was almost as ancient as the city itself. Having been built in the XIX Century, the building was a tall construction that with it’s walls of snow-white stone, and it’s classic architecture had an image of importance and elegance to itself. For over a hundred years, it had remained as one of Gotham’s strongest banks, with hundreds of thousands of Over the course of the last couple of decades, Gotham’s Merchants Bank had lost it’s influence. Scandals involving money laundering lead to the fall of it’s reputation, unexpected economic problems led to disagreements between the Bank’s owners and the Mobsters who actually ran the bank. That, combined with the rise of newer banks such as the Gotham National Bank, led to the major Mafia Families such as the Falcone and the Maroni to abandon their investments in the facility. To top it all of, the decades had turned the bank’s external paintings, once bright white, into a dead, decaying grey.
It was approximately 1:00 PM, and at that moment the Gotham Merchants Bank was surrounded by GCPD officers and reporters of both Newspapers and multiple Television Channels. Among those was a beautiful woman in her late twenties, with long ginger hair and sky blue eyes, wearing a business pencil skirt and buttoned up business coat of black colors, over a blouse of dark blue. She was Summer Gleeson, official reporter of the WGOB’s Gotham Insider program. She was accompanied by a team of camera men, technicians and a couple of makeup artists who were giving the final touches to her cheeks and eyeliner. They were about to report on a shocking event, and Gleeson needed to look her very best for it. When all was said and done, the lady was positioned right in front of Merchants Bank’s entrance, holding a microphone in hand. The lightning was perfectly adjusted, and the camera was catching the right angle. “Okay… We’re going live in 3… 2… 1… Go!”
“Earlier today, at 11:30 AM, Gotham City was once again assaulted by the occurrence of rather bizarre criminal activity. Citizens that had come to the Gotham Merchants Bank were shocked by the sudden appearance of a group of eleven men that hid their identities with strange, faceless red masks. While their attires could lead to them being dismissed as mere lunatics, these men showed their experience in crime as they quickly took control of the Bank, making hostages out of multiple innocents, tying them with handcuffs and wrapping remote-controlled explosives around their necks. The police were unable to intervene in time, as none of the Bank’s alarms went off, and the few guards inside the building were all eliminated by the strange group. “ For those that would be watching the reporting from their homes, they would see Summer Gleeson’s words being inter-cut with images of multiple of the bank’s security cameras, showing the criminals abruptly invading the Bank’s main hall through multiple doors, then zoomed in images of a couple of masked men setting the bombs on the civilians, and then finally images of security guards being effortlessly eliminated by one of the group, who quickly shot all three in the head with surprising precision.
“Ultimately, through the use of termite, the hooded criminals broke the safe opened, and escaped with over 10 Million Dollars in cash in their hands. While the identities of these men are all but unknown, some information on them does exist. According to interviews with men and woman present in the bank at the time, the masked men called themselves “The Red Hood Gang” , and referred to each other through royalty inspired codenames, such as “The King”, “The Lord”, “The Knight” and “The Alchemist”.” As Gleeson continued to monologue, images of Merchants Bank’s safe being cracked open, and the subsequent escape of the Red Hoods would be shown. “According to Crispus Allen, officer of the GCPD, this isn’t the first time that The Red Hood Gang has acted in Gotham City. The live interview would be cut, and a recording of an interview with a tall, dark skinned man would be ran:
“Officer Allen, when did the Red Hood Gang first began to act in Gotham City?”
“We first heard rumors of a criminal group that his their faces with the use of Red Hoods a couple of months ago, around the same time that the chemical incident on the narrows occurred. Back then, we didn’t give any priority to the case. Hell, most of us didn’t even believe in the rumors. But word of their actions kept returning. Supposed kidnappings of minor thugs, negotiations with arms dealers, reports that they would meet in an abandoned Warehouse South of Miagani Island, but nothing like what happened today. Judging by the efficiency of the robbery, these men are professionals, they must have been planning the attack for weeks.”
“So, what will be GCPD’s course of action regarding The Red Hood’s criminal activities?”
“It’s too early to tell, but all indicates that we are going to be heavily investing into investigation on the group, Jim has already said that he won’t rest until he sees all of these criminals locked up in Blackgate.”
The recording of the interview would fade away, and Summer Gleeson soon reappeared. “Today’s happening has left Gotham struggling with unanswered questions. Who are the Red Hoods, and what is their ultimate objective? And will the GCPD alone be enough to apprehend them? And with the Scarecrow Event in the narrows months ago, and the vigilante known as The Batman still at large, coupled with the decay of the Falcone family, we all have to ask ourselves: Is this another sign of a new era of crime rising in Gotham City, or merely a fad that will soon fade? I am Summer Gleeson, and Gotham Insider will be back after intermissions.”
