Description
Appearance: Zatanna stands tall and proud despite her shorter height. Her confidence in her abilities and herself is visible in her strong posture, which also speaks to her years as a show magician and performer. Having been raised as a performer, she holds herself and shifts her weight thusly, a pose in one form or another that comes natural to her and naturally shows off her physical attributes. The long, smooth mane of black hair hangs down her back usually straight, but she does have it in loose waves at times. She is commonly or most always in fishnets and black leather, outfits that show off her ample chest and moderate hips in assistance as a distraction. Her outfits are rarely loose and usually cling to her figure like a second skin, which she finds normal and comfortable. Along with a good pair of heels or the occasional boots, she's always dressed to kill.
Personality: The magician is a fiesty one, her confidence in herself and her abilities apparent in her tone and attitude as well. She doesn't take shit from anyone and she'll gladly put you in your place should you think you are brazen enough to challenge her. Zatanna is a grown woman with an intimate knowledge of herself as such and she can be a rather sexual creature, but she does not let it rule her, like John Constantine does at times. While she is a kind person, especially to children and innocents, she can be cold and brash when it calls for it, which is just the sort of personality she has to have to face some of the things she does. While she has a performer's lifestyle, she is not a diva by any means. She will ensure her opinion is heard and can swallow her pride to admit she is wrong or if something could have been done better. She can be a team player, but it depends on the team as to how well she works with them.
Significant relationships
John Zatara -
Her father and mentor, the closest thing to her heart. He was not just her father figure and mentor in magic and the performing arts, he was her best friend and trusted ally. He never would have let anything happen to her and died in the way of protecting her. Her father is a soft subject for her and she keeps him near and dear to her heart.
John Constantine -
Damn the bastard. She met him when she was running with Nick Necros in New York and she was, at first, unimpressed. But Nick took him under his wing and the three of them became rather close knit. But as time went on, she and John grew closer while Nick's interested ventured into darker magic and away from the two of them. It was in his sort of absence that she and John Constantine fond their hearts intwined and realized just how much had been under the surface. At the same time, Nick found them and the three split, John and Zatanna to stand against Nick and his dark magic interests. And ever since, the two of them have been a powder keg. They fight like siblings but fuck like champions. Somehow they always wind up back at each other and hold the other in a special corner of their hearts.
Nick Necro -
Nick had her heart first, a man with talent and a life of magic, he was easy to get along with and he just worshipped her as the figurative Goddess she was. He went to her every show and was never late. He was always the first one to clap and the last to stop and he looked at her with such adoration. It was something she was used to but Nick did it just right not to be another fan. He was charming and sweet and they furthered their magic together. However, Nick's interests moved to dark magic and it began to change him. He became obsessed with more power and going further and further, it caused a rift between them and she found her heart moving away and on to John Constantine.
Madame Xanadu -
The fortune teller and Zatanna work together on the Justice League Dark team, that which Xanadu coerced into being. Zatanna doesn't fully trust Madame Xanadu, she feels she's devious and will put what she sees in her visions as more important than what matters to others.
Boston Brand -
Deadman is another member of the Justice League Dark. She finds him funny, witty, charming and a gentleman. He's a hard worker on the team and he's a go-getter. She admires his initiative and his determination.
Black Orchid -
While Zatanna likes her use of some magic and sills, as well as her hold on her morals despite being around John Constantine from time to time, Zatanna doesn't fully trust Black Orchid, mostly because of her military affiliation and Zatanna has seen how the government does things.
Swamp Thing -
A powerful and dangerous creature she understands decently, but one that she dares not cross. (While Constantine on the other hand seems to like playing that card every hand.) She steers clear of pissing him off and tries not to meddle in his affairs.
Doctor Mist -
Once thought to be an ally, but turned traitor, Doctor Mist was once close with Black Orchid as they worked together for the government so far as Zatanna could put together. He lost his family in Africa and since has lost his way, turning to dark magic and a man named Felix Faust, to get back what he lost.
Nightmare Nurse -
A fellow member of the Justice League Dark, she's not worked with her much yet, but time will tell.
Felix Faust -
A powerful magic enemy with at thirst for power, dark magic, and a reaping for revenge. He's not ever to be trusted and he's to be avoided at all cost. This man has proven himself capable of great and terrible things and the lack of worry for those caught in his cross fire.
Demons Three -
Three demons that stick together and have been used against her and the Dark League on more than a few occasions. They've found a spot of recognition against her and the League and make it their mission to attempt to kill her and the others given the chance.
Enchantress -
An insanely powerful creature trapped inside the form of June Moone usually, though not always. June has sought out help from the Dark League and they did their best to aid her, but at the end of the day, the Enchantress is uncontrollable without her 'light' side, June herself. Zatanna doesn't wish to cross the Enchantress if ever given the chance.

Audition post
The stage announcer's voice bellowed with a grand applause on its heels, excited whistles and hollers echoing over the thunderous clap. Red velvet curtains slid apart to allow a cloud of mist creep along the floor and to the audience. It's mystifying effect left the applause to quiet and the audience to aw, eyes peering through the veil to see who they so eagerly awaited for. Slowly, their eyes adjusted to the shadow gathering finite shape. Suspending in a large, golden hoop, the slender, feminine figure hung with the small of her back on the hoop, upside down as she balanced her shapely legs clad in fishnet stockings down to her heels. Legs stretched up as though she were holding herself up there, but as the hoop slowly, so slowly turned, her legs lowered and the view reveiled that she was wholly floating within the hoop. No part of her touched the ring, nor did wires gleam above to show how she was being suspended. The applause started up once more and the dark-haired magician began to slide out from the hoop and under it, curling her body as an acrobat as she encircled it, eliminating the possibility of any wire assistance at all. More applause before the mist thickened and rose, veiling her once more until the view was too obscured to see at all. The spot light moved, finding a spot in the darkened crowd where the Mistress of Magic sat in a man's lap, her heels up on the table. The light explored the length of her fishnets until it found her, tipping her top hat with her painted-lips smiling from under it. The applause kicked up higher and she pressed a kiss to the man's cheek, who, turned so red he could have matched the shade of the red dress the woman he was with wore. "Thanks for the seat, handsome." Zatanna stood fluidly and sauntered her way through the crowd, and each step took her higher and higher into the air until she strode onto the stage effortlessly ignoring the steps. And the show, went on...
Hours later, in her changing room, Zatanna enjoyed the slight recline of her chair at the makeup desk and sighed. Her waterfall of black hair gleamed in the candles she'd lit, their aroma she inhaled thankfully as it helped her unwind. Rolling her head side to side as the tension released, only to be suddenly turned on high when the feeling of magic used nearby prickled over her skin. And she whipped around in her chair just in time to catch the last trails of magic receding and John Constantine standing with a lit cigarette hanging from his smug lips.
"Zee!" His head jumped to dodge the glass cup holding makeup brushes, it smashed with a glisten of shattered glass to the floor behind him and he sighed, pulled the cig from his mouth. "I know, I know, I haven't called-"
"No, you arrogant bastard, you left me to face that demon by myself so you could go snag your little artifact!" rage only made her blue eyes burn bright and she had to ignore the will to cast magic to her hands to effectively show how much she wanted to wring his neck. She stood, fists clenched at her sides, searing heat at his very visage as if his very presence annoyed her. But to be fair, it did.
"Oh, you're a big girl, Zee, you could handle it just fine and I needed that gem. What's the harm? You got away just fine just like I knew you would and you're mad but you'll get over it when I tell you what I used the gem for, just like I knew you would and you'll be mad that I'm right just like you knew you would."
Another glass cup shattered as he ducked. He inspected the shards on the black carpet and frowned. "Maybe you'll take more convincing this time."
Her hands found his shoulders in a hard shove until he was backed to her door. The dark-haired woman was so beautiful when she was angry, the blue and violet magic glittering around her black hair so that it glistened like a starry sky. Those black-painted lips peeled up around pearly whites in a snarl. "No convincing, John. No more leaving me in the dust to deal with your mess while you walk away scath-free with whatever prize you were after."
His hands were up in defeat, in surrender, but the corner of his stupid, smug mouth was tilted in a smile, laughter glistening in his eyes. "Relax, relax, Zee-"
"No! I'm not relaxing, John, and you were just leaving! NEPO!" the door behind him suddenly heeded her command and he went tumbling backwards to the tile hall when it swung out.
"IT WAS TO APPEASE XANADU!" he yelled from the floor.
Zatanna opened her mouth to shit another enchantment to send his ass someplace really hot and with no water, but he rushed in his next words before she could.
"TO GET SOMETHING BACK OF YOUR FATHER's FOR YOU!"
Now she paused, blinking at him. He'd what? He'd chased down an artifact of her father's to give to her? There was some catch here, she was sure, there always was with John. Some backward way of being nice when really it was helping him get something he wanted out of it. It's how the man did everything. But still, her father. She loved him dearly and everything he'd ever done for her, she clung to every scrap of memory of him she could and anything he worked with.
John found this free moment to stand and frown sadly at the broken cigarette on the tile before scratching at the back of his head. "It was gonna be a surprise, but something got in the way." he took her silence as another chance. "Xanadu raised the stakes after I gave her the gem, found out it's because she traded it for something else about a week ago. So I had to track it down. It's in an old shop in Maine. I figured you'd want it, thought...maybe we could go get it. Together."
Zatanna inhaled deeply as she watched the con man. He was leaving something out, she knew him well enough to know. But the chance to get something of her father's had her still interested. She grabbed her black leather jacket off the rack and he smiled, but he was met with her warning, cold glare. "There and back, no distractions, no stops, and non of your cons, John."
"Maybe dinner, who knows-"
"No."
He smiled and placed a hand at the small of her back as he opened the door, a swirling portal cast against the wall in the hallway leading out of the underground to her show room. The two walked though and Zatanna already felt a sigh of anger, the air pushing through the other end...wasn't Maine.
